The Category Excellence (CatEx) team's ambition is to bring together the characteristics that have made Amazon successful, while applying best-in-class grocery thinking to our execution. This role offers an exciting opportunity to influence strategy for the Amazon Fresh UK business. As a Senior Strategic Category Planner, you will serve as a thought-leader, improving our external antennae and building a deep understanding of customer needs and category performance. You will have the opportunity to lead impactful CatEx strategy projects, across Selection, Category Strategies and Trade Planning. This role is a Fixed Term Contract for 12-months maternity cover.
Key job responsibilities
Category Strategies:
- Coordinate and facilitate Category Strategy processes, tools, and governance
- Deliver category data playbooks to support category insight and strategy development
- Conduct vendor listening sessions and derive insights
- Organize and enable Category Strategy workshops with cross-functional teams
- Ensure high-quality strategic outputs (category vision, objectives, initiatives)
- Govern the implementation of the category strategy and monitor initiatives
- Deliver ongoing engagement with vendors on market performance and activity, identifying joint opportunities for growth
Category Insight & Thought-Leadership:
- Act as a "thought-leader" by being at the forefront of category insight
- Build a thorough understanding of customer/category needs and ensure the voice of the customer is embedded
- Stay up to date with category performance using internal and external data
- Lead the category insight relationship with vendors and agencies; regularly spend time to absorb and embed insights
- Act as the "voice of the category" in key mechanisms, alongside the Vendor Manager
Category Excellence Strategy:
- Lead on strategy projects with important business impact, such as Selection differentiation and Trade Planning
- Develop strategies incorporating customer insight, market segment insight, relevant data inputs and key jobs to be done
- Step-change the ability of the business to turn data into insight, applying this to our value creation strategy
- Own relevant mechanisms to track progress across cross-functional teams and drive performance across key metrics
- Experience with Excel
- Experience using data to influence business decisions
- Experience with business analysis and P&L management
- Experience driving internal cross-team collaboration
- Experience in account management, project/program management, or buying
- 5+ years of vendor manager or category planning experience

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree, or experience in a professional field or military- Experience with Excel
- Experience using data to influence business decisions
- Experience with business analysis and P&L management
- Experience driving internal cross-team collaboration
- Experience in account management, project/program management, or buying
- 5+ years of vendor manager or category planning experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
