ROLE OVERVIEW //We are recruiting a Learning and Development Manager to work within the L&D team, based at the firm’s London office. The Learning and Development Manager will help to support key training programmes across the firm.The L&D team of 11 sits within the Knowledge and Learning department, which was formed earlier this year. The new Learning and Development Manager will therefore be joining the group at an exciting and strategically important time.This role will work closely with the legal and business services groups, people across Knowledge and Information Services, HR and various other stakeholders across the firm. The successful candidate will need to be able to build relationships at all levels and work collaboratively, while also pushing forward independently.Our dedicated L&D team provides a comprehensive offering, including legal, commercial and business skills training, coaching and mentoring and leadership development for the firm’s partners, qualified lawyers, trainees, business services staff and executive assistants. Most members of the team work on both legal and skills development for our people, and support on key firm initiatives working closely with groups such as the Commercial team and Responsible Business. Crucial to the continued delivery of our best-in-class training has been the team’s ability to foster our culture of training excellence via ever more creative delivery methods, digital platforms and innovative solutions.In line with its commitment to the highest standards, the firm has a strong development culture and focus on training, which is demonstrated, for example, in a minimum 25-hour Continuous Professional Development (CPD) requirement for all our fee earners, as well as through minimum CPD requirements for our business services and secretarial staff. The L&D team is key to this, as is their ability to forge excellent working relationships with our lawyers and with colleagues across business services and the wider firm.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES //The key responsibilities of this role are set out below and there may be others which are not listed. You may be required on occasion to work outside our normal working hours of 9:30am to 5:30pm.Support and oversee the design and delivery of various programmes of legal, skills, business and interpersonal skills training to populations across the firm. This will include the design and delivery by you of appropriate sessions.Design, manage and support legal training programmes for trainees, associates and partners (this may include overseeing and advising on design and delivery by internal and external presenters).Support the design and delivery of client training initiatives and flagship programmes, working with clients, partners and fee earners, as well as other groups in business services.Design and deliver innovative legal and skills training resources, including creating blended learning courses using digital technology and e-learning tools where appropriate.Monitor the effectiveness and impact of our training.Being a ‘business partner’ and trusted adviser for designated legal and/or business services groups, helping to identify and support such groups’ training and development needs.Develop relationships across the firm (and externally, where appropriate) to encourage a collaborative, integrated approach and to foster an integrated approach to knowledge and learning.CANDIDATE PROFILE //Candidates for this position will be expected to have experience in the design and delivery of technical and/or skills training, possibly with a legal qualification, most likely gained through recent experience of working within a law school, or within the Knowledge or Learning and Development functions of a professional services firm.A degree-level of education with a legal, psychology, organisational development or instructional design background preferred.L&D experience gained within a professional services firm or law school environment would be advantageous (but not essential).Experience in the design and delivery of training in a high-performance environment, identifying and meeting learning outcomes based on key competency requirements.Experienced at partnering with stakeholders within a business to identify and address organisational development needs, gaps and opportunities.Confidence to develop strong collaborative relationships with stakeholders across the firm, using these to provide targeted learning interventions across the business.Ability and willingness to take the initiative and challenge status quo.Psychometric accreditations and/or coaching qualifications would be beneficial but are not required.Proven ability to plan, prioritise and manage multiple deliverables within a tight timeframe and deliver high quality work.Be comfortable leading and managing others at various levels of seniority, motivating and empowering them to deliver an exceptional training offering and managing performance.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, written, spoken and presentational.Strong attention to detail and good use of grammar.Proactive approach to defining needs and delivering solutions.Creative and solutions focused with an interest in industry trends and best practice.Experience of producing blended learning programmes making use of digital tools to enhance the learning experience.An interest in the emerging benefits of AI on organisational development.Willingness to provide feedback, share information and contribute ideas and suggestions as necessary.Ability to build strong business relationships with internal and external clients and the resilience to deal with demanding individuals.Demonstrable flexibility to deal confidently with changes in the firm’s requirements.Willingness to meet the demands of the role through extended hours when required.Experience of working in a diverse team whilst fostering an inclusive team culture.High level of professionalism and integrity; displays the highest standard of professional ethics.
