Job Ad: Desktop Support Technician - South Shields Location: South Shields Type: Full-time, Permanent Salary: £20k-£24k We are seeking a proactive Desktop Support Technician to join our team in South Shields. This role involves providing IT support to users, ensuring smooth operations of IT systems, and assisting with both hardware and software troubleshooting. Job Purpose: - Serve as the primary point of contact for IT helpdesk support for all users of the IT systems. - Deliver first-line support for hardware, software, and peripheral equipment. - Assist in maintaining and troubleshooting IT systems and infrastructure. Key Responsibilities: - Provide an IT Helpdesk service, handling user issues related to IT hardware, systems, and services. - Diagnose and resolve problems with desktop hardware, software, and Windows operating systems. - Install and configure IT hardware, software, and peripheral equipment. - Log user inquiries, ensuring timely responses and resolutions. - Support maintenance programs for equipment and desktop computers. - Maintain the IT asset database and manage user accounts. - Collaborate with the Network Services team for server and network maintenance. Essential Skills and Qualifications: - Skills: Strong technical and diagnostic skills, proficiency in Windows troubleshooting, excellent communication and time management abilities, and a team-oriented mindset. - Qualifications: Level 2 qualification in IT or relevant industry certification, Level 2 in English and Maths. - Experience: Windows installation, configuration, and support, plus hardware setup and maintenance experience. Desirable Attributes: - Knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory support. - Experience working in further education or similar environments. - Understanding of Apple OS X troubleshooting. Special Requirements: - Flexibility to occasionally work evenings or weekends as needed. - Ability to travel between sites. - Strong commitment to equality, diversity, and safeguarding practices.
