Contract Hardware Development EngineerJob PurposeThe Hardware Development Engineer will be responsible for tasks related to the electronics design of systems. The successful candidate will collaborate with software, firmware, electronics, and mechanical engineers to develop complex production-grade medical devices and in-house test rigs.Duties and ResponsibilitiesProvide detailed technical documentation for deployed hardwareDesign complex circuits based on interface specifications or guidelinesPerform ad hoc tasks as directed by the managerAdhere to company values in all responsibilitiesSolder and change minor componentsConduct PCB rework, cuts, and strapsSet up test benches and test PCBs for functionality per specificationsUtilize and understand basic bench equipmentDiscuss designs with junior and senior staffWork independently for extended periodsDesign schematics in AltiumMake layout changes in AltiumRecommend and implement design changes on PCBsDiscuss software requirements with software engineersCollaborate with layout engineers to transfer designsMentor junior staffManage, generate, and update library controlDesign for test and manufactureQualificationsExtensive experience in the aforementioned dutiesComprehensive understanding of end-to-end electronics hardware and integration developmentKnowledge of modern manufacturing techniques for volume production, including assembly and cost structureExcellent verbal and active listening communication skills with internal and external partnersAbility to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary teamStrong self-organization skillsPragmatic, self-motivated, and proactiveDesirable ExperienceFluid/air handling, motion control systems (motor drivers, relays), optical sensors and switches, thermal control systemsMedical device development to ISO 13485, high reliability, safety critical, and automotive environmentsReviewing existing designsPlanning and architecting for cost reductions and manufacturabilityWorking with interdisciplinary, international teamsFamiliarity with FMEA and equivalent processesExperience with EMC and safety testingWorking ConditionsWork primarily in Scale Space, with some off-site work possible when bench work or similar activities are not required.Physical RequirementsNo specific physical requirements identified.
