Job Description

Our client is a leading quantitative research and technology firm, with offices in London and Dallas. They are proud to employ some of the best people in their field and to nurture their talent in a dynamic, flexible, and highly stimulating culture where world-beating ideas are cultivated and rewarded.

The Role

The Storage Engineering team at our client manages 200 petabytes of high-performance scalable storage. This team of 12 engineers, based in London, is responsible for the design, deployment, and operation of the storage platform, which supports the research workloads of their Researchers. It is a core component of their infrastructure.

As they expand to their London office, the team is seeking to build a storage team there that will work closely with the UK-based engineers. This includes optimizing and troubleshooting workflows alongside Researchers, Software Engineers, the Networks team, and external vendors such as Dell, VAST, HPE, and Rubrik.

A typical day in this role will begin with a team check-in, planning the handover of any maintenance activities scheduled for later in the day. You will share the operational workload, which typically includes user queries and provisioning requests, and take responsibility for monitoring, handling problems, and escalating when necessary as the UK staff roll off for the day.

For those with strong coding skills, there is also the opportunity to work through a backlog of development tasks, focusing on automation and reporting, which the DevOps sub-team is eager to share.

Who Are They Looking For?

As an Infrastructure Engineer, your contribution will directly impact the productivity of the Researchers and the overall success of the company.

The ideal candidate will be self-driven, hardworking, and demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, alongside a keen interest in technology, hardware, and high-performance scalable storage platforms.

Key skills and experience:

  • Linux administration skills
  • Proficiency in Python
  • Interest in GitOps and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles, such as Ansible, Jenkins, and Kubernetes
  • Ability to communicate clearly, especially with remote teams
