You'll be working within a high-performing team of data scientists, collaborating on projects across our Universal Credit team, to identify, analyse and create solutions for complex problems and maintain essential digital services. You'll be an Associate Data Scientist for our Universal Credit (UC) team, applying your skills and experience to projects that affect millions of UK citizens. UC Data Scientists are part of multidisciplinary development teams that design and deliver new features for the Universal Credit digital service, using their expertise in datasets and data science techniques to ensure the development of the service is supported by data, helping to improve outcomes for UC claimants and DWP staff. You'll lean heavily into advanced analytics (e.g. machine learning, network analytics, natural language processing, etc.), coding using SQL and Python. You'll be using software development best practice to create re-useable and extensible codebases. You'll be a trusted member of our multidisciplinary Agile team, offering your own experience and insights to projects and learning from others in the data science and wider digital communities in DWP. Your essential skills and experience: Academic background in Data Science, Maths, Statistics or Computer Science or equivalent Data Science-related experience Hands-on experience using data science to solve problems or improve established processes Stakeholder management skills and experience working with colleagues to understand their requirements and deliver complex analytical projects in a timely manner Ability to communicate results to a range of audiences, translating technical concepts into non-technical language where necessary Understanding of a range of data science techniques and the ability to apply these to practical situations Ability to explore, combine and transform data from across disparate sources Experience writing code in R, Python or SQL. Details. Wages. Perks. You'll be based in your choice of one of our brilliant digital hubs in either London or Leeds, whichever is most convenient for you. We also have all the tools and tech to work flexibly. We operate a hybrid working model. You can expect to work from home 60% of the time. For Leeds based roles, we offer competitive pay of up to £36,545 per annum. Additionally, a Digital Allowance of up to £7,476 per annum is available for exceptional candidates, based on our assessment of your skills and experience. You'll be eligible for a brilliant civil service pension with employer contributions of over 28.97%, worth up to £10,500 per year. For London based roles, we offer competitive pay of up to £41,567 per annum. Additionally, a Digital Allowance of up to £2,454 per annum is available for exceptional candidates, based on our assessment of your skills and experience. You'll be eligible for a brilliant civil service pension with employer contributions of over 28.97%, worth up to £12,000 per year. You'll get a generous leave package starting at 26 days, rising to 31 over time. Plus, all the usual bank holidays, and the option to take up to 3 extra days off a month on flexi leave.
