Why Choose Croydon?

Step into a role where you’ll thrive in one of the most vibrant, culturally diverse communities in London. At Croydon Council, we’re not just looking for social workers—we're seeking passionate professionals committed to delivering excellence and driving positive change for children and families. Here, children are at the heart of everything we do, and we're looking for motivated social workers to join our journey in empowering families to flourish.

Your Role & Responsibilities

Social Work with Families (SWwF) brings together experts working with children subject to child protection plans, children in need, and Looked After Children (LAC). Whether it's within the Public Law Outline process or during court proceedings, you'll play a pivotal role in a close-knit, supportive locality team. With a dedicated Team Manager, Business Support Officer, and a team of skilled colleagues, you’ll be empowered to use your expertise to craft the best possible outcomes for children and their families in Croydon.

At Croydon Council, we pride ourselves on innovation. From forward-thinking work environments to cutting-edge practice models, it’s an exciting time to join us. We’re embedding systemic practice into our service delivery and are well-resourced to keep caseloads manageable. With integrated business support and unqualified practitioners to assist, you'll be well-positioned to focus on meaningful, direct work with families.

This role is not just about social work—it’s about growing your career, being part of a professional and supportive community, and making a tangible difference to children and families.

What We’re Looking For

We are seeking confident, qualified social workers registered with Social Work England who are passionate about creating change. Whether you’ve completed your ASYE or have post-qualification experience, we want to hear from you!

You’ll excel in:

  • Building meaningful relationships that create lasting change.
  • Recognizing and working with families' strengths, promoting positive outcomes.
  • Managing complex cases and representing children in court with empathy, professionalism, and resilience.
  • Statutory experience is beneficial but not essential—what matters most is your ability to demonstrate skills in partnership working, a solid understanding of thresholds of need, and the capacity to deliver excellent practice.

We're especially keen on candidates who have:

  • Strong analytical and writing skills to incorporate our systemic practice model, focusing on protective factors and strengths within families.
  • Outstanding time management to meet crucial deadlines.
  • A commitment to anti-racist and anti-discriminatory practice, helping us celebrate and embrace diversity in all its forms.

Why Join Croydon?

Croydon Council is dedicated to creating an environment where our people can thrive. Our teams are diverse, experienced, and committed to fostering positive change. At Croydon, you’ll find:

  • A collaborative, supportive environment, where reflective supervision is promoted and embraced.
  • Manageable caseloads, enabling a personalized, high-quality approach to practice.
  • A small, tight-knit team to help you settle in and share their knowledge and expertise.

The Benefits

At Croydon, we don’t just value your expertise—we invest in it. We offer a competitive benefits package designed to support your career development and work-life balance:

  • Highly competitive salary with a retention payment of £2,500.
  • Accredited Systemic Practice training to deepen your skills.
  • Comprehensive CPD opportunities for your continued professional growth.
  • 29-31 days of annual leave, plus Bank Holidays, with the option to purchase more.
  • Pension scheme with an average employer contribution of 20%.
  • Access to management development programmes to enhance your leadership potential.
  • Wellbeing support, including access to our Employee Discount Scheme, offering perks like Cycle Benefit Scheme, GymFlex, and retail discounts.
  • Hybrid and flexible working arrangements to help you maintain a healthy work-life balance.
  • Sponsorship and relocation packages for the right candidates.

Join us at Croydon Council, where your work will not only transform lives but also shape the future of social care practice. Be a part of something meaningful—apply today!
