Junior Commissioning Engineer  £35,000 - £45,000 + Overtime & Car Allowence  Full Time, Permanent (Flexitime) Worcester  This role is ideal for engineers who thrive on the challenge of working with automation, electro/mechanical, and data acquisition systems in turnkey projects for the automotive test industry. No two projects are the same, offering the opportunity to deliver solutions in cutting-edge automotive and industrial environments. We are open to a range of experience levels, from graduates to seasoned professionals, with appropriate training provided. Job Responsibilities: Inspect and fault-find on bespoke, one-off electrical system installations on-site. Calibrate and set up electronic data acquisition, electrical, and mechanical systems. Set up and perform PID tuning of standard automotive control loops (e.g., speed, torque, temperature control). Configure automation software to suit specific channels and interface components. Configure test sequences according to customer specifications. Create/modify system configurations and software to achieve a range of functionalities. Integrate third-party hardware such as inverter drives, fuel systems, safety systems, and analyzers into test cells and facilities. Perform test runs and gather results. Develop automation sequences using standard automation software tools. Create custom system functionality based on customer requirements. Follow commissioning steps and checks to ensure system functionality. Work with customers to achieve system sign-off. Collaborate with commissioning and site managers to produce time schedules. Provide initial customer training on system operation. Conduct customer service visits for calibration, fault-finding, and rectification. Support internal test departments when required. Frequent site-based work, both within the UK and internationally. Provide remote support to customers and engineers for diagnostics and troubleshooting. Suitable Candidate: Self-driven and proactive, with strong time management skills. Solid electrical understanding, including the ability to follow drawings and diagnose issues. Ideally possesses a degree in engineering or a relevant electrical qualification; experience in a similar role is desirable. Basic knowledge of programming/software development, ideally in C# or Visual Basic, with an eagerness to develop industrial programming skills. Familiarity with protocols such as Ethernet, Serial, EtherCAT, CAN, and AK protocol (over Ethernet/Serial) is a plus. Strong fault-finding skills with the ability to apply engineering principles to real-life problems. Understanding of the automotive industry (engines, battery tech, powertrains, etc.) is advantageous but not essential. Willingness to work away from home during the working week, with occasional overseas trips (up to 28 days). Capable of spending 75-100 nights away per year; 80% site-based role, with 2-3 overseas trips per year (2-4 weeks each). Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a professional client-facing demeanor. Proficient in using Microsoft Office and computers. Holds a full UK driving license, with the ability to secure business insurance. Must have indefinite UK right to work; visa sponsorship is not available.
