We are looking for a dynamic, professional and experienced Sports Centre Duty Manager to join our team on the start of this exciting journey.
Purpose of the Post:
The Duty Manager is responsible for the smooth running of the day-to-day operations of the Sports Centre including health and safety, pool and pool plant room operations, customer care and supporting a team of Recreation Assistants and Gym Floor staff. The successful applicant will have knowledge and previous experience of working in an operational capacity in the leisure industry, where they will be able to hit the ground running to provide this essential cover.
This is a customer facing role, and as such the successful applicant must be ready to communicate with a diverse range of customers and demonstrate a strong commitment towards ensuring excellence in customer service and enhancing the customer experience and ensuring that all areas work in accordance with the facilities' requirements and agreed standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Centre / Staff Management
• Provide effective leadership and management of Recreation Assistants and the Gym Floor staff whilst on shift.
• Supervise completion of KPIs and daily tasks by the shift team, carrying out daily checks on all facilities ensuring the building is safe, clean and fit for use by customers.
• To supervise or undertake equipment set up and take downs according to the programme of activities. (This will involve lifting or moving of medium weight equipment and manual handling training will be provided.)
• To provide inductions and training to new staff to include full time/agency/casual staff are required as well as refresher training to existing staff members.
• To conduct a programme of performance management and appraisal for staff including one to ones and Performance Review and Development Plans.
• Support the organisation of lifeguard training, including NPLQ renewals, competency assessments, maintaining training records as required.
• To be responsible for the security of the building and equipment and to act as key holder.
• To work on a shift basis and, in the absence of Senior Management and/or the Centre Manager, be responsible for the effective operation of the Centre.
• The deployment of staff so as to suit activities taking place in the Centre, ensuring that acceptable standards of service delivery are met at all times.
• To assist in the planning, production and distribution of all publicity material and marketing activities.
• To undertake life guarding duties, coaching and induction courses as necessary.
• When on duty ensure the correct administration of water test records, staff time sheets, staff leave requests and records, stores requisitions, first aid equipment and job defects.
• To ensure that effective stock control systems are maintained, and to assist in the maintenance of effective systems for logging defective plant equipment and building work. To ensure adequate stocks of plant room chemicals and cleaning materials are available.
• To carry out routine maintenance of a non-skilled nature appropriate to the needs of the service including locker locks. Sports floor tape replacement, sports equipment repair or other tasks as necessary.
Pool Plant
• Support the management of the pool plant operation, ensuring regular maintenance tasks and KPI checks are undertaken daily, weekly, monthly according to schedule including but not limited to backwashing, cleaning of injectors and topping up of chemicals as needed.
Health and Safety:
• To be responsible for the Health and Safety of all staff and visitors to the building.
• Adhere to all procedures and guidelines listed within the Ethos Emergency Action Plan (EAP) and Normal Operating Procedures (NOP).
• Ensure the reporting of accidents, incidents and near misses are done in a timely manner.
• To immediately report faults in the building, furniture, heating and ventilating plant and mechanical equipment to the Management team.
• To monitor the cleaning service, clean and log any comments.
• To implement and control Health and Safety at Work Codes and Sports Centre procedures for all aspects of the day-to-day operation of the Centre, e.g. opening-up, locking-up, security etc. and to ensure that the use, handling and storage of chemicals in the Centre conforms to current COSHH regulations.
General:
• Your normal working hours will be 35 hours per week, 5 days out of 7, on a rota shift pattern. The shift pattern will include, early, mid and late shifts across all operating hours. The earliest a shift will start is 06:30 and the latest a shift will finish is 22:30.
• The post holder must be available to work shifts on a rota which includes regular weekends/evenings/early mornings.
• Undertake any other related duties that may reasonably be required in accordance with the role of Duty Manager
