Health & Safety (H&S) Technician for the Pattingham Farm Project

Protecnium (protecnium.com/en) is an international consulting firm specializing in engineering and technical services for construction. We are currently seeking a Health & Safety (H&S) Technician for the Pattingham Farm project in Birmingham, UK.

Estimated duration: 36-48 months, with the possibility of extension depending on the progress of the project. Generally, at the end of a project, efforts are made to move the employee to other projects for continuity.

Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM with a 1-hour break.

About the Role

As a Health & Safety (H&S) Technician at a photovoltaic (PV) plant in the UK, you will play a critical role in ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations throughout all construction, operation, and maintenance activities. Your primary responsibility will be to maintain a safe work environment for employees and contractors, minimizing risks and ensuring adherence to UK regulations and standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Risk Assessment & Hazard Identification: Conduct regular risk assessments for all areas of the PV plant, including electrical systems, equipment handling, and working at heights. Identify potential hazards and implement control measures to minimize risks for employees and contractors.
• Implementation of Safety Protocols: Ensure compliance with safety protocols and procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to safety signage. Work closely with site managers to update and refine safety policies as operational needs evolve.
• Inspections & Audits: Perform daily, weekly, and monthly safety inspections of the site, equipment, and working areas. Ensure that all electrical systems, inverters, and solar panels comply with safety standards and are properly maintained to prevent accidents.
• Incident Investigation & Reporting: Investigate any accidents, incidents, or near misses that occur on-site. Prepare detailed reports with recommendations for improvements, ensuring root cause analysis is completed to prevent reoccurrence.
• Training & Safety Briefings: Conduct regular safety training sessions and briefings for staff, contractors, and visitors. Keep all personnel informed about new safety procedures, particularly around the handling of photovoltaic panels and electrical components.
• Coordination with Regulatory Bodies: Ensure compliance with UK health and safety regulations, including Construction (Design and Management) Regulations and environmental laws. Liaise with external auditors and inspectors to maintain regulatory standards.

Requirements

• Experience in H&S: Prior experience in health and safety roles within the construction, renewable energy, or industrial sectors.
• Knowledge of Regulations: Familiarity with UK health and safety regulations.
• Attention to Detail: Ability to identify potential risks and implement effective safety controls.
• Communication Skills: Capacity to communicate safety guidelines and protocols effectively to both technical and non-technical staff.
• Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to handle incidents swiftly, conduct thorough investigations, and implement corrective actions.
• Renewable Energy Experience: Experience with renewable energy projects, particularly solar energy, is a strong advantage.
