Role Purpose  To provide the council’s fire safety team with expertise in fire safety (theory, firefighting good practice, and legislation), that will be superior to landlords which may try to argue their unsafe buildings are compliant/ safe and advise at the inspections and give testimony at the enforcement stages.  Responsibilities  To provide the council’s fire safety team with expertise in fire safety (theory, firefighting good practice, and legislation), that will be superior to landlords which may try to argue their unsafe buildings are compliant/ safe and advise at the inspections and give testimony at the enforcement stages Help train non-fire engineer colleagues, such as EHOs, Housing Officer and Support officers To assess external wall reports and fire risk assessments of all residential buildings over 11m   Where necessary assist with drafting schedules of work, notices, and orders for enforcement under Housing Act 2004 To negotiate with and provide guidance to the public, applicants, and their professional design teams on the full range of building regulation specialisms To assist in the investigation of unauthorised work and breaches of building control including site surveys, the obtaining of evidence of fact from witnesses (including under caution) and other sources. To be the lead fire safety expert for on-site inspections and accompany team of EHOs on HHSRS site visits Undertaking other fire safety-related works such as liaising with enforcement officers and building control surveyors Requirements  An understanding of the construction industry and awareness of Building Control legislation. Basic understanding of building construction. Fire safety law and legal proceedings; prosecutions and expert witness work (prosecution and defence), central and local government. Experience working with the various iterations of approved document, in High Rise domestic buildings Experience working in housing associations or councils Honours degree in fire engineering - related subject Member grade with IFE Working with partner organisation (Housing, Building Control, Fire Service, HSE, other emergency services, and working in a multi-disciplinary team).
