Do you thrive on solving complex challenges and making a real impact on the future of aviation? My client is seeking a Senior Avionics Security Systems Engineer with extensive cybersecurity expertise to join their team. You'll be working on innovative projects that enhance the security of wireless communication systems in commercial aviation.

As the Security Subject Matter Expert (SME), you’ll collaborate with a diverse group of engineers, program managers, and customers to design, implement, and secure next-generation aviation technologies. Your leadership will be critical in driving security protocols, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and guiding a team of talented engineers. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of avionics security with cutting-edge solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement security protocols, policies, and procedures for avionics systems.
  • Lead the design and deployment of security architectures for airborne and ground-based products.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, including RTCA guidelines (DO-326A, DO-355A, DO-356A).
  • Act as the primary security advisor, communicating with engineering teams, program managers, and external stakeholders.
  • Prepare documentation for certification processes and collaborate with relevant regulatory bodies.
  • Lead and mentor a team of engineers, assigning responsibilities and overseeing their professional development.
  • Manage security incident response plans and ensure quick recovery in case of security breaches.
  • Stay updated on the latest cybersecurity trends and technologies through conferences, workshops, and industry working groups.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or related field) with 10+ years of experience in cybersecurity, or 13+ years without a degree.
  • Strong experience with cybersecurity in embedded devices and aviation systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of industry security standards and RTCA guidance materials.
  • Hands-on experience with vulnerability assessments, threat modeling, and security testing.
  • Strong leadership skills, with experience managing teams and large-scale projects.
  • Security certifications (CISSP, CCSP, or Security+) preferred but not required.

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with RTCA DO-326A/355/356A standards and aviation-specific security protocols.
  • Knowledge of cloud-based security (e.g., AWS) and virtualization tools.
  • Proficiency with security tools such as vulnerability scanners, IDS/IPS, and network security audits.
  • Experience working with FAA and other certification bodies is a plus.

This is an exciting role for a leader who is passionate about cybersecurity and aviation. You’ll have the autonomy to drive critical security initiatives and collaborate with teams to shape the future of avionics security globally. If you’re looking for a dynamic environment where you can make a significant impact, my client wants to hear from you!
