The Service & Team:

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Disabled Children & Therapy Service (DC&TS) and to work in a specialist, multi-disciplinary team which supports disabled children, young people and their families. The team supports disabled children from their earliest years to transitions to adult social care and is made up of a wide variety of skills and disciplines.

We are a supportive team who work closely together and are passionate about our jobs. Working in a multi-disciplinary team provides great day to day opportunities to learn from each other and to ensure children have the support they need.

We are an innovative team who create new and better approaches to how we provide the support that each individual child needs.

The Role:

Disabled Children's Family Workers support and coordinate services to ensure disabled children, young people and their families have their needs met. They are advocates on behalf of the children they work with, and they work alongside social workers to provide support for children and families at times. They regularly review the children's needs and record this in a child support plan. Disabled Children's Family Workers are passionate and committed to working with disabled children and young people aged 0 to 18 years and their parents/carers.

This is a public/customer-facing role, where the statutory English language requirement for public sector workers applies.

This position will be subject to an enhanced criminal record disclosure check.

Working Pattern:

2 x 12-month fixed term posts in our West and Mid Cornwall teams.

1 x permanent position in our East Cornwall team.

All positions are full-time (37 hours a week) from Monday to Friday.

What you'll need to succeed:

Are you enthusiastic about supporting disabled children, young people and their families? Do you enjoy a career where two days are never the same? Do you excel at problem solving?

You will have experience of working with children and young people with disabilities and have a relevant level 3 qualification. You will have an excellent understanding of the needs of disabled children, young people and their families and recognise that parents are the experts in their own children. You will have an excellent track record of improving outcomes for disabled children.

You will have a passion for disability, be energetic, motivated and have the ability to make your practice fun.

You will be committed to multi-agency work and take a strengths-based approach to your work with families to develop resilience and reduce dependency.

You will understand the function of statutory services and relevant agencies. You will recognise the importance of working flexibly to include all members of the family and their support network and understand the dynamics of successful partnerships/relationships to enable change. Specific training will be available so that you can use a range of evidence-based approaches and intervention skills such as Positive Behaviour Support, Signs of Safety, Motivational Interviewing, and Triple P Parenting.
