An exciting opportunity has become available for a Trainee Herdsperson to join our team in Cheshire .
This is a trainee role, where you can learn from the current management team and develop your existing skills.
Our Farm
We are a mixed family Dairy farm in Cheshire covering 980 acres with mixed grass, wheat & maize, on farm. Our dairy herd consists of 750 pedigree Holstein cows with 600 youngstock, who are milked three times per day on a 40/40 herringbone parlour, with Auto ID, ADF. Our cows are averaging 12,900 litres with each cow producing 42 litres per day, our herd is housed all year round. We operate on an all-year-round calving system with the dairy enterprise integrated into the arable operations. Our milk is supplied through a Muller Tesco contract and our data & records are completed using Uniform.
Your role
As a Trainee Herdsperson, you will be working closely with the Herd Manager to develop your career and progression in dairy farming. Working closely with the existing team with the overall running of the dairy unit. Roles and responsibilities will include:
Supporting the daily management of the herd and ensuring animal welfare is the top priority.
Tractor & Machinery operating
Keeping the overall farm tidy and safe to operate.
Working with the farm manager to understand how to effectively lead a team
Milking to a high and consistent standard
Keeping basic records and compliance up to date
Assisting the team with dry cow management, calving cows, cell count, colostrum protocols and fertility.
Maintain and build strong working relationships with consultants, vets and nutritionists.
Ensuring the farm is kept tidy and safe to operate at all times
General stock person work and maintenance.
Qualifications & Licenses required
A full UK Driving license.
Proof of UK right to work
Telehandler & Forklift License preferred
Your Requirements:
You will need to demonstrate knowledge in agriculture. You will also need to show basic foundation skills in dairy farming.
Be a confident and focused individual who is willing to learn
Posses the ability to be organised and have a high attention to detail
Be motivated, adaptable, and passionate in agriculture.
