Premier Underwriting Limited is a successful, forward-looking motor underwriting agency which manages around £60 million of insurance premiums and is an important part of the growing Premier Group, which includes its own insurance company.


We have a proven and profitable track record in providing pricing, underwriting, claims handling and distribution functions for insurers based in the UK and Gibraltar.


About the role

This role reports directly to the Executive Director. Providing technical support to the Directors by continuously reviewing the quality of Premier’s and its business partners’ activities through audits, paying particular attention to compliance, documentation, accounting and procedures. This applies to the existing Motor account and likely new general insurance products.


You will be responsible for ensuring the group complies with FCA regulatory requirements, and the implementation of our FCA compliance and risk management framework. You will be involved in the identification, analysis and explanation of regulatory topics and themes, and will be required to advise the business on key developments and how they will impact the group. This role also acts as the final escalation point for our customers’ complaints, liaising with the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) where required.


The role of the Compliance Officer within an FCA-authorised firm is an important one, and it is vital that holder of this position have a good understanding of the FCA’s approach to regulation, and its expectations. This is particularly important as the individual holds the Compliance Oversight (CF10) function, as holder of this function they must be able to demonstrate to the regulator that an appropriate level of competence has been achieved and maintained


About you

The ideal jobholder will have excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to distil complex rules and guidance into simple communications for diverse audiences, with good analytical and numerical skills.


The ability to manage multiple tasks and work with minimal supervision, with confidence to effectively plan, set priorities and manage workload.


The drive, curiosity and determination to improve FCA compliance across the business via all its associated touchpoints, coupled with the personal gravitas required to establish credibility with colleagues and customers, always acting as an exemplar for our company values.


You are likely to have several years’ experience in an FCA regulated insurance/financial services environment or an audit-type role where a full appreciation of compliance has been acquired. With a good understanding of FCA requirements and the Regulatory Compliance regime as it applies.


The jobholder will need:

·      ‘A’level or equivalent education is essential. A relevant professional qualification is preferable (if not, the jobholder will be expected to study for an insurance qualification).

·      A minimum of 4 years’ experience working within an FCA Compliance role.

·      In-depth knowledge of the UK regulatory framework within the financial services, and particularly the insurance sector.

·      Knowledge of the FCA Handbook, specifically CASS, DISP, and SYSC.

·      Commercial awareness and the ability to balance business needs with regulatory requirements.

·      Relatable and positive experience of working in a fast-paced transforming organisation.

·      Experience in designing and delivering FCA Compliance and risk management frameworks.

·      Experience in conducting compliance and risk gap analysis, and successfully addressing any identified issues.

·      Some project management experience will also be beneficial. 

·      Experience of managing and negotiating with external clients at senior level

·      Ability to work away from the office including overnight stays to complete technical audit and compliance functions, from time to time.

·      Insurance experience will be beneficial but is not essential (full training will be given) provided the job holder has the necessary base skills to do the job effectively.

 

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: From £65,000 per annum, negotiable depending on experience.
