SEND Teaching Assistant Location: Hull Employer: GSL Education Contract Type: Full-Time or Part-Time (Negotiable) Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience Are you passionate about supporting young learners with special educational needs (SEND) and helping them reach their full potential? We are seeking a committed and dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to work in secondary schools, Alternative Provision (AP), and Pupil Referral Units (PRU) across Hull. This rewarding role involves providing essential support to students who require additional help, including those with SEND, SEMH, and challenging behaviors. Key Responsibilities of an SEND Teaching Assistant: Supporting secondary school students with a variety of special educational needs (SEN), including SEND, Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) issues, ADHD, and behavioral difficulties. Providing one-on-one or small group support to promote both academic and personal growth. Collaborating closely with teachers to tailor lessons and resources to meet the individual needs of each student. Assisting in the delivery of personalized learning plans, ensuring students remain engaged and motivated in their education. Offering classroom support in the absence of teachers to maintain a smooth and productive learning environment. Encouraging positive behavior and helping students develop essential social skills, confidence, and independence. Helping create an inclusive, structured, and supportive classroom environment, particularly in Alternative Provision (AP) and PRU settings, where students face significant challenges. Job Requirements for SEND Teaching Assistant –  Relevant qualifications such as CACHE Level 2 or 3, NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Childcare or Teaching Assistance (preferred). A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Education, Psychology, or a related field (advantageous but not essential). Experience working with secondary-aged students with SEN, particularly in alternative provisions or PRU settings, is highly valued. Excellent communication skills, with a patient, empathetic, and resilient approach to supporting students facing complex challenges. The ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and contribute to a positive, focused learning environment. A flexible, proactive attitude towards meeting the unique and evolving needs of students. Please note, a solid understanding of safeguarding and child protection is essential for this role.
