Civil Liberties Solicitor (Actions against the Police) - NQ-5 PQE

An award winning and friendly Legal 500 firm based in the city centre is looking to grow its civil liberties team with a junior solicitor. With a diverse caseload of human rights matters including actions against police, inquest matters, prison law, counter terrorism matters, and data protection cases, this is an exciting opportunity for a solicitor to develop their career in an excellent firm.
Responsibilities:
- Conducting civil liberties cases for initiation to conclusion.
- Assisting partners and senior lawyers with their caseload of files dealing effectively with a variety of matters.
- Input and assist with the development of the department.
- Dealing directly with clients and maintaining the highest standard of care, taking instructions and ensuring full compliance.
- Managing applications to the LAA when necessary.
- Liaising with all parties including defendants, government agencies, courts or other parties.
- Instructing expert witnesses and taking clients’ proofs of evidence.
- Skills and Experience:
- UK qualified Solicitor NQ – 3 PQE years post qualification experience (other levels will be considered).
- Strong experience with civil liberty, prison law, public law, or human rights matters, to include actions against the police.
- Proven experience of managing matters throughout the full case process including funding and billing.
- Understanding of the Human Rights Act 1998, the Data Protection Act 1998, the Equality Act 2010 and coronial law.
- Experience with publicly funded matters.
- Strong interpersonal skills interacting with clients and colleagues.
- A passionate personality with an enthusiasm for developing their team and greater firm.
