Head of Engineering

Our client is hiring for a Head of Engineering, to help build an AI platform that links ordinary people to the most famous leaders, thinkers and idols, by using artificial intelligence and an extensive library of pre-recorded video footage. As a Head of Engineering, you ill be leading a cross functional engineering team to build an app that generates real-time, two-way conversational interactions on mobile, offering information, education, and entertainment. You will ideally be hands on, coming from either a mobile or Microsoft background.Required Skills: Hands on software engineering background with at least 2 years in a team, project, or department leadership position.Have worked directly on mobile apps or backend APIs for mobilebe familiar with multiple platforms and languageshave worked on multiple cloud platforms including Azure and have some experience managing cloud infrastructureEvidence of leadership progression throughout careerHeld numerous positions equivalent to developer, senior developer, tech-lead, project-lead, head-of engineering, at a variety of company sizesGenuine leadership skills, no phony titles or “led a team of one person”People and project management:Managing people directly in engineering rolesCoordinating with peers in product, design, and infrastructureAdvising senior stakeholders about technical status and strategyAwareness and experience of good technical practices and making iterative improvements to team processes and practices:Agile methodologiesGit workflows and practicesDevOps practicesDesirable Skills: CosmosDB, GraphQL, ASP.NETIntegrating C/C++ libraries with iOS and Android appsUnity on mobileBespoke and off-the-shelf content-management-systemsResponsibilities Understand the entire tech stack and know where and how to make improvements.Be aware of the product roadmap and how well it aligns with the current and evolving technical estatePrioritize technical debt and schedule work on any technical dependencies before they are needed by productManage and mentor engineers and QA people in the delivery teamCoordinate with and support other disciplines within the business: product, design, AI, and content-productionIdentify potential improvements in workflows of engineering and other disciplines and pro-actively champion these initiativesGet hands-on writing code, services, pipelines, tools as neededLiaise with product to help spec out upcoming tickets in advance of more detailed refinement with the teamLiaise with senior stakeholders to temper and validate business ideas and strategy from a technical delivery perspectiveMonitor staffing needs and suggest changes and additions where appropriate, hiring new people when necessary to ensure the team has all the skills it needs to thrive
