Senior Infrastructure Engineer

Job Title: Server Build Engineer Location: Basingstoke Travel: Flexibility is required to work from both office and client sites. Security Clearance: Due to the secure nature of this role, candidates must hold full SC clearance and be willing to progress to Direct Vetting (DV) clearance. Only UK Single Nationals will be considered. About the Role: Our client is seeking a Server Build Engineer (Infrastructure Build Engineer) to support an Operating System upgrade (Windows Server 2012 to Windows Server 2019/2022). This role involves creating high and low-level design documentation, implementing Windows Server builds, and managing the provisioning mechanism within a secure enterprise infrastructure. The Server Build Engineer will report to the Design Authority (Principal Architect) and collaborate closely with Programme & Service Managers and Infrastructure, Applications, and Networking SMEs. Key Responsibilities: Lead the design and documentation for the OS upgrade. Ensure security requirements are met in accordance with Agile principles. Work with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless implementation. Critical Skills: Develop and execute strategies for automated deployment of multiple Windows Server builds. Expertise in MECM/SCCM for system management, including application integration, firewall configurations, and Group Policy Objects. Design and implement HyperV infrastructures and VM provisioning (vSphere/ESX knowledge is advantageous). Deploy Microsoft Certificate Authority (CA) solutions and configure Windows PKI. Ensure compliance with CESG guidance, DISA STIGs , and security profile requirements. Produce comprehensive High-Level/Low-Level design documentation and transition plans. Mandatory Experience: Strong systems/software engineering background across the full lifecycle. Extensive experience with Windows Server 2019/2022 , Windows 10 , and automated deployment using MECM/SCCM. Familiarity with MOD applications (GOTS/COTS), MOD IT systems, and security policies (JSP440, 480, 604). Proficient in PowerShell and VBScript with an understanding of virtualisation technologies. Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments . Excellent communication and presentation skills. Desirable Skills: Knowledge of VMWare PowerCLI .
