Senior Procurement Manager - Risk Management £65,000 + Benefits 1 year FTC with likely extension Location : Hertfordshire, Greater Manchester or Bristol Hybrid Working : 2 days on site per week (Average) Are you passionate about procurement and risk management? Join our team and take on a critical role in ensuring effective risk management across our supply chain, delivering innovative solutions for national and international defence. About the Role: As part of our Major Equipment Procurement (MEP) function, you’ll be instrumental in managing the sourcing, contracting, and supply of high-value, complex sub-systems. You will ensure that risk management is integrated into everything we do, empowering us to maintain resilience and excellence in a dynamic and evolving environment. Key Responsibilities: Develop and maintain a comprehensive procurement risk management framework that aligns with company processes and strategic objectives. Identify, assess, and prioritise risks across the procurement lifecycle at the enterprise, category, or supplier level. Stay ahead of the curve by monitoring the macro environment through third-party platforms and media, identifying emerging risks that could impact the supply chain. Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders, from procurement managers and supply chain teams to senior leadership, ensuring collaboration on risk mitigation. Create insightful internal communications on potential risks and help shape strategies that protect our procurement operations. Develop and oversee the implementation of risk mitigation strategies, working closely with project procurement managers. Lead regular risk audits and governance reviews, and facilitate supplier engagement activities to enhance risk management practices. Manage the supplier onboarding process and ensure thorough risk assessments are conducted. Maintain the procurement risk register and ensure accurate tracking and reporting of risks. Foster a culture of risk awareness by delivering training, supporting open communication, and coaching team members on risk management best practices. Stay up-to-date with industry trends and apply the latest best practices in procurement risk management to continuously improve our processes. Support the adoption and training of tools and systems related to risk management across the team. What We’re Looking for From You: Proven experience in procurement roles with a focus on risk management, ideally within complex or high-value environments. A track record of developing and implementing successful risk management strategies that deliver measurable results. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, paired with excellent communication and relationship-building abilities. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, fostering strong partnerships within the team and across departments. Passionate about risk management, you’ll inspire others with your commitment, integrity, and strategic thinking. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with risk management software systems (experience with ARM or Riskonnect is a bonus). Ideally, you are working towards, or hold, a professional qualification or certification related to procurement and/or risk management (e.g., CIPS, World Commerce & Contracting, IRM).
