Zodiac Maritime is an international ship operating company providing a full range of management services for a wide and diverse fleet of commercial ships, spanning containership to tankers, bulk carriers to PCTCs, and a growing orderbook focused on dual-fuel vessels to improve overall fleet energy efficiency.

The role

Position Financial Controller

Contract type Full Time – 12-month fixed term contract

Reporting to Assistant Director of Finance and Director of Finance

Overview of role

As part of the expansion of their London operations, Zodiac Maritime is seeking to appoint an experienced and high calibre Financial Controller to join their Finance team, with direct accountability for the reporting and consolidation activities of the Group in accordance with IFRS, UK GAAP and applicable Tax and VAT regulations.


As an integral member of the Finance Leadership team, you will be expected to pick up the key requirements of the role quickly, including the active management of the team, overseeing the reporting processes, responding to queries from senior management, and liaising with external auditors.

This is an exciting time to be joining the Finance team at Zodiac Maritime who are in the critical phase of a Finance Transformation Programme, including the implementation of MS Dynamics 365 (Finance and Operations) and a new consolidation system.



Key responsibilities and primary deliverables


  • Develop and lead the Financial Accounting and Reporting team of around 15 people through a period of change, with a strong focus on team development and embedding a high-performance culture
  • Manage the efficient delivery of timely and accurate quarterly and annual consolidated Group financial statements, Board presentations and management reporting in accordance with IFRS and UK GAAP
  • Manage delivery of quarterly and annual forecasts and budgets, and the implementation of new performance reporting and analysis
  • Manage the implementation of a documented best practice control framework
  • Manage the implementation of process changes to shorten reporting timelines and provide value added analysis for users, leveraging the new Finance systems
  • Provide technical and non-technical expertise and information to a broad range of stakeholders, earning their trust and confidence
  • Oversee the processes for producing individual statutory accounts and tax filings, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and leveraging the new systems to make these processes as efficient as possible
  • Oversee the overall external audit process of the Group and individual financial statements, ensuring adherence to the reporting timetable and actively managing the relationship with the auditors
  • Lead any new initiatives or the implementation of any new reporting requirements, and oversee the process of determining the technical accounting treatment of new transactions
  • Lead by example in upholding the highest professional standards and discretion in handling confidential information



Skills profile

Relevant experience & education


  • Successful track record working as a hands-on Group Financial Controller or Divisional FD in organisations with significant revenues and a strong asset base. Strong technical accounting knowledge is essential for this role.
  • Excellent leadership skills and proven ability to build high-performing teams that are informed and receive regular constructive feedback; as well as to successfully engage and support team members through significant periods of change
  • You will enjoy working within a culturally diverse and flat structured organisation
  • Demonstrated track record and proven ability to produce financial and management accounts with commentary, and deliver high quality board reporting that is insightful, timely and responsive
  • Natural ability to understand the wider business context and maintain effective decision making whilst working through periods of intense pressure
  • Confident and effective verbal, written and interpersonal skills. Ability to speak to both technical and non-technical stakeholders and prepare written reporting and presentational content with level-appropriate messaging up to executive level
  • Experience in change management and system implementations would be an advantage. Confident and comfortable with uncertainty and ambiguity in a project environment
  • ACA / ACCA / CIMA qualified is a requirement for this role
