Simpson Booth is delighted to be assisting our client with the recruitment of a Commercial Adviser to join their team in Darlington, UK. This role will report to the Commercial Manager.


The purpose of this role is for the Commercial Advisor to provide strategic commercial advice, ensuring effective bid management, and optimising commercial performance across our projects. This role requires a blend of strategic insight, commercial acumen,and experience in managing complex bid processes.


JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Bid Strategy and Management: Develop and execute bid strategies for large and complex tenders. Collaborate with the Commercial Manager and Bids and Tenders Coordinator to prepare and review bid documentation, ensuring alignment with client requirements and company capabilities.
  • Commercial Analyst: Conduct thorough market and commercial analysis to identify opportunities, assess risks, and develop competitive pricing strategies. Evaluate and recommend commercial terms and conditions to optimize contract value and minimize risk.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise with key stakeholders, including clients, partners, and internal teams, to gather necessary information, address commercial concerns, and ensure a cohesive approach to bid submissions.
  • Contract Negotiation: Support the negotiation of commercial terms and contracts, ensuring that all agreements align with company policies and financial objectives. Provide expertise in contract interpretation and compliance.
  • Performance Monitoring: Monitor and analyse commercial performance metrics to track bid success rates, profitability, and contract performance. Provide insights and recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Ensure accurate and timely documentation of all commercial activities and bid-related processes. Prepare and present regular reports to senior management on bid status, commercial performance, and market trends.
  • Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure adherence to company policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements. Identify and mitigate commercial risks associated with bid submissions and contract execution.



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE


Education: Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, or a related field, Advanced degree or professional certification in commercial management or project management is a plus.


Experience: The Commercial Advisor will have a good amount of professional experience in a commercial or bid management role, preferably within the subsea technology or engineering sector. A proven track record of participating in large-scale bids and complex contracts.

  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to develop and implement effective bid strategies.
  • Excellent negotiation and contract management skills.
  • Proficiency in market analysis, financial modelling, and risk assessment.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and project management abilities.
  • Proficiency in relevant software and tools for bid management and commercial analysis.

  • Compliance Expertise: Ensure that all negotiated terms are compliant with company policies and provide guidance on contract interpretation and adherence.
  • Metric Analysis: Monitor and analyse commercial performance metrics, such as bid success rates and contract profitability, to evaluate effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
  • Insightful Reporting: Provide regular reports and insights to senior management on bid status, commercial performance, and market trends, supporting strategic decision-making.
  • Accurate Documentation: Maintain precise and timely documentation of all commercial activities and bid-related processes, ensuring completeness and reliability.
  • Clear Reporting: Prepare and present reports in a clear and structured manner, tailored to the needs of senior management and stakeholders, highlighting key information and insights.
  • Regulatory Adherence:The Commercial Advisor will ensure adherence to company policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements in all commercial activities and bid submissions.
  • Proactive Risk Mitigation: Identify potential commercial risks and develop strategies to address them, ensuring that risks are managed effectively throughout the bid and contract lifecycle.
