As part of our growth strategy, the school are thrilled to announce the opening of a brand-new Primary and Secondary Special Education School in Derby, set to open in early 2025.The School will cater to 72 students aged 5-19, with a primary diagnosis of ASC (Autistic Spectrum Condition) and ADHD. They are committed to creating a calm, nurturing, and inspiring learning environment that empowers every student to achieve their fullest potential.The Opportunity:The school are seeking an experienced and visionary Headteacher to join us in January 2025. You will play a critical role in the planning, creation, registration, and opening of our new school. With the building currently undergoing a complete redevelopment, you will help shape the look and feel of the school, ensuring it becomes an outstanding learning environment.This is a unique career opportunity to be at the forefront of an exciting new venture, where you can make a lasting impact on the lives of young people and establish a new benchmark in special education.The Role:As Headteacher, you will provide the vision, strategic leadership, and direction needed to create a successful and high-performing school that aligns with Aurora’s values. You will be accountable for all areas of the school's operational and educational performance, as well as the financial management and leadership of both education and support staff.Your responsibilities will include:Curriculum Development: Leading the design and implementation of a curriculum tailored to the needs of our student cohort.Team Recruitment and Development: Building and nurturing a high-performing team to secure the success of the school.Operational Management: Ensuring the school meets the highest standards of education and care, in line with Aurora's vision and values.Stakeholder Management: Engaging with parents, the local community, and external agencies to create a supportive and collaborative environment.Responsibilities:Skills and Qualifications:Successful candidates are likely to demonstrate:Qualified Teacher Status (QTS): With a further professional qualification in a relevant area. Candidates with a Headteacher qualification (such as NPQH/SNLP) or a willingness to gain such a qualification are preferred.Proven Experience: As a Headteacher within a specialist school environment—essential.Knowledge of DfE Guidance: Including Independent Schools Standards (ISS).Understanding of SLD and ASD: With up-to-date knowledge of related issues.Knowledge of Government Initiatives: Local and national legislation relevant to the role.Quality Assurance Experience: Including lesson observations and performance management.Leadership Qualities: Strong, effective leadership skills with the ability to inspire and manage a team.Communication Skills: Exceptional communication and stakeholder management abilities.This is an exciting time to join a new school that’s part of a reputable trust.
