Systems Engineer (DCS & Safety Systems) Aberdeen – Global Industrial Automation Company –Permanent - £47-52k Starting Salary DoE + O/Time rate (offshore work) + Car Allowance + Private Personal Healthcare + Matched Pension Scheme (10%+) + Other flexible benefits

Are you a DCS Engineer with experience of DCS software configuration, alarm rationalisation and an understanding of EEMUA 191?


Are you a UK citizen based around the Aberdeen area or willing to relocate to the area? Would you be open to regular travel including, when required, trips offshore?


Do you have a demonstrable knowledge of TUV Functional Safety and certification to prove it?

Would you like to work for a market leading provider of industrial automation, test and measurement, information systems and industrial services?


Do you hold a full UK driving licence?

If the answers to the above are yes, our client is looking to add to their Oil & Gas team in their offices based at Aberdeen, Scotland. We provide a healthy work-life balance with a blend of working from home and the office. There will be a requirement to travel to customer sites in Europe, the UK, offshore and overseas as required for each project.

What you need…

• To be a highly motivated and flexible person who is willing to work in an international oriented company.

• Experience in a similar role within the oil & gas / petrochemical / Industrial Automation environment

• Hold a TUV Functional Safety Certificate

• Minimum HNC qualification in an engineering or process related subject

• Have practical knowledge of Management Systems such as ISO9001, ISO 14001, ISO 27001 and ISO45001

• Hold a full UK driving licence

Applicants with Offshore certificates are highly desired, however full training can be provided.

The role…

  • Configuring DCS software based on client-provided design documents, including requirements specifications and control strategies.
  • Expertise in alarm management and familiarity with EEMUA 191 guidelines.
  • Programming for both continuous and batch process control systems.
  • Understanding of Functional Safety, including SIL ratings and Safety Instrumented Functions (SIF) assessments.
  • Leading or contributing to the detailed design process by creating function block programs for safety systems, which involves implementing logic solver SIFs, shutdown logic, hardware interfaces, and graphical interfaces.
  • Making modifications to existing safety systems and performing impact assessments.
  • Capable of working independently with minimal oversight while also being an effective and collaborative team member.
  • Performing internal tests and overseeing or participating in Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT).
  • Overseeing the transition from design to site installation and managing the installation process on-site.
  • Conducting Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) and ensuring smooth system handover, including documentation and formal project closure.
  • Strong communication skills, able to convey and receive technical information clearly and work according to established procedures.
  • A proactive and results-driven individual who maintains high standards and quality, while fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.
