Job Title: Cosmetic Scientist

Salary: £50k

Location: UK (Hybrid working)


Job Summary:

Our client, an organic and sustainable skincare and cosmetics brand is on the lookout for a Cosmetic Scientist to join their NPD tea.

You will be responsible for researching, formulating, and testing cosmetic and personal care products, ensuring they meet industry standards, safety regulations, and consumer needs. This role involves working closely with cross-functional teams to bring innovative and market-ready products to life.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop new cosmetic products by experimenting with raw materials and ingredients.
  • Modify and improve existing product formulations for better performance, safety, or cost-effectiveness.
  • Stay updated on trends and new ingredients to create innovative product concepts.
  • Research emerging technologies, ingredients, and market trends to inspire new formulations.
  • Explore sustainable and eco-friendly formulation methods, including the use of natural or organic ingredients.
  • Conduct laboratory tests to assess the stability, efficacy, and safety of formulations (e.g., pH balance, viscosity, texture, etc.).
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations and guidelines, such as FDA, EU, or specific regional cosmetic regulations.
  • Interface with regulatory affairs to ensure all formulations meet legal and safety standards before release.


Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Cosmetic Science, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related fields. A master’s degree or Ph.D. is a plus.
  • Experience: At least 2 years of experience in cosmetic formulation, product development within the cosmetics industry.


  • Skills:
  • Strong knowledge of cosmetic chemistry and raw materials within cosmetics.
  • Familiarity with cosmetic safety regulations and compliance (FDA, REACH, etc.).
  • Proficiency in laboratory techniques and equipment.

  • Analytical Skills: Strong ability to analyze formulation stability, safety data, and efficacy tests.
  • Communication: Capable of conveying technical concepts to non-scientific colleagues and stakeholders.
