Desirable: SEN qualification and/or an interest in therapies e.g. ABA, OT, Art therapy Start Date: ASAP Days & Hours: Monday to Friday 12.00pm to 7.00pm Family/Client Pets: Cat Recruiter: Rachael (url removed) About this client/child: Maya is a happy and engaging young lady of 15. She loves music, drama, singing, going out for walks, trampolining, swimming, and Boxercise. Maya has a diagnosis of Autism and Dyspraxia. She can experience sensory overload and has difficulty regulating her emotions which can lead to meltdowns. This will usually be linked to sudden loud noises, if she is tired, or if she has had a bad day at school. At times like this, Maya will need her own space and to not feel crowded. Maya is using the zones of regulation to try and help recognise her emotions and put strategies in place. She wears ear defenders or music headphones to help de-sensitise her to noises and help manage her sensory needs. Maya can find social settings overwhelming so lots of preparation and pre-planning is required – visual timetables work very well. She receives OT support at school and is working on her fine and gross motor skills. Maya is quite independent in terms of personal care, but in other areas such as going out / taking transport and when crossing the road, she needs supervision and guidance. Overview of role: We are looking for a *Female SEN Support Worker to provide after-school support to Maya. Your shift will start at midday, and this will give you the opportunity to assist with some light housekeeping, getting things ready for Maya, meal prep and wardrobe organisation. Maya is brought back from school around 3.15pm and key areas of support will be socialisation, helping her independence and life skills. There are also activities to take her to such as boxercise, trampolining and the local youth club. During the school holidays there’s time to arrange activities further afield for Maya to enjoy. Who this job would suit: Maya is looking for a *Female SEN Support Worker who is happy and has similar interests to her – especially music and drama. The successful SEN Support Worker will be outgoing, confident, experienced working with young people who are autistic and an effective communicator to help develop Maya’s communication and social interaction skills. You will be confident in managing behaviours that can challenge and be able to put in the most effective strategies for Maya. You will be someone who appreciates the importance of working to really understand Maya and her triggers to be one step ahead and help prevent meltdowns from occurring. Whilst a driver with their own car would be ideal, a car will be provided for the right candidate for use on duty What’s great about this job: A great opportunity to join a friendly family and support Maya in her pivotal teenage years. You will have the opportunity to travel with the family on holiday and bespoke training can be arranged with Maya’s therapists. Who is recruiting for this role? Snap Care will be carrying out all recruitment including shortlisting, recruiter interviews and arranging employer interviews. Please note, unfortunately, we are unable to provide sponsorship for any of our vacancies. * When a specific gender is essential, it is considered a genuine occupational requirement under paragraph 1, schedule 9 of the Equality Act 2010, for a female or male worker to work with our client
