With a strong focus on ensuring the long-term integrity of our customer’s samples and data, storage systems provided by Azenta are transforming the productivity and streamlining the workflow of scientists across a broad range of life science applications, including drug discovery and biobanking.The Mechanical Design Engineer will work with a small team of mechanical design engineers contributing to project specific design / product configuration work following a welcome influx of customer contracts. This includes assembly & detail component design, generation of BOMs and design substantiation (e.g. calculations etc) and working with cross-functional teams to meet customer requirements & timescalesWhat You'll Be DoingUndertakes design of assemblies, sub-assemblies and components using Solidworks 3D CAD systemEnsures designs are robust by using techniques such as FMEA / design review / DFM & DFSDrive repeatability and standardization into custom stores projects by utilising equipment and sub-systems that are already developed and provenTranslates requirements for sub-systems into design solutions (based specifications from customer / lead engineer or line managerWorks with the design team to identify, analyse and resolve project difficulties before they ariseCooperates closely with other functions in the Hardware design team including Electrical Design, Refrigeration, Systems EngineeringApplies a ‘standard operations’ approach to the design process (e.g. calculation templates) and works with team lead to reinforce & further develop company practicesExpected to keep up to date on technical advances in the discipline and related fieldWhat You Will BringYou will be knowledgeable in the use of 3D CAD Modelling (Solidworks preferred), PLM system (Agile preferred) and use of this technology to improve design quality & efficiencyYou will have direct experience of documenting design and providing calculations.Experience of design for CE technical construction files would be desirableWorking knowledge of lean, continuous improvement tools and techniquesProficient in IT; Outlook, Project, Excel, WordPerson SpecificationGraduate or HNC (engineering, manufacturing, or similar) with experience in mechanical system design.Familiar with automation design e.g. motors, gearboxes, bearings, positional accuracy.Can detail design components, add dimensions and tolerances, tolerance stack calculations.Design assemblies including generation of assembly drawings and BOMs.Work effectively as part of a team.Can communicate clearly with colleagues regarding design intent, assessment of various design options & problem resolution.Can work with Operations and Test team during build and testing phases.Understands manufacturing methods and designs accordingly.Has worked with PLM systems and understands routing & approval of design documents (drawings, CAD models, calculations etc).Direct experience of generating design calculations.Can document designs.Must be able to use SolidWorks 3D CAD system.Can use Agile PLM system preferred.Must be able to use MS Teams (including video conferencing).
