Production Manager

A successful food manufacturing business, supplying major retailers and other customers. Innovative with a long-term perspective, this business has benefitted from significant investment, underpinning growth and increased production volumes.
The company are now seeking to appoint a Prep / Production Manager to manage, supervise and control their production output, to ensure efficient and reliable running of production, whilst maintaining GMP, safety and quality standards.
The Role
- Work Monday to Friday as production lead, reporting to the senior Production Manager;
- Ensure cook plans and prep plans are being followed without error, ensuring machinery and resources are being used effectively;
- Manage day-to-day production challenges, actioning back up plans if required, to ensure 100% customer service levels are maintained;
- Ensure the principals of GMP are being followed by all individuals in the Prep area;
- Allocate duties and co-ordinate the Production team to maximise utilisation of the Production team;
- Work with the Raw Materials team to ensure stock is available to Production, selecting requisite raw ingredients according to recipes and daily production plans;
- Assist with Product Trials, ensuring raw materials are prepped and ready for trials;
- Liaise with Production Managers, Hygiene team, Operations and Engineering team daily;
- Ensure production colleagues maintain pace and accuracy in order to achieve deadlines in a fast-moving food production environment;
- Follow safety and recipe-critical formulation methods to meet customer specifications and pass QC tests;
- Oversee the Prep area, ensuring the correct quantities of ingredients are measured, weighed and passed to Production in the correct volumes;
- Operate and supervise manual, semi-manual and automated processes, observing and monitoring procedures to ensure they are being conducted correctly;
- Provide training and support to operatives, ensuring they are competent and working to stringent standards with regard to Health and Safety and Hygiene;
- Promptly identify and report faults to Maintenance when machinery errors are experienced, to minimise machine downtime and the impact on production;
- Ensure the Production team adheres to QHS policies, COSHH guidelines, PPE protocols and Good Manufacturing Practices to minimise risks;
- Motivate the Production team and promote a cohesive team-based culture, to optimise team performance and achieve Line targets;
- Liaise effectively with HR regarding job enrichment and the training and development needs of the Production team.
The Person
- This role would be ideal for an experienced Food Industry Production Manager, Production Supervisor or Team Leader;
- At least 18 months UK-based experience working in Production in a supervisory or Team Lead capacity within the Food Manufacturing sector;
- The Production Manager appointed must fit in with the company management style and culture which is relaxed, independent, friendly, and open;
- Have a good manner with customers, able to show customers around the Factory and answer Customer questions;
- Able to lead by example and apply a hands-on management style;
- Inquisitive, open to attend training courses and develop knowledge and experience;
- Keen to learn from the senior Production Manager and Head of Production.
Salary circa £36,000 pa to £40,000 pa depending on experience.
