Graduate Teaching Assistant Location: Nottingham Type: 8:30am – 15:30pm (Full-time Monday – Friday) Salary: Competitive, based on experience About Us: Smile education is working on behalf of a dedicated SEND school in Nottingham who specialise in providing education for permanently excluded young people aged 7-14 years from mainstream schools. Our mission is to create a supportive and nurturing environment where students with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs can thrive and reach their full potential. Role Overview: The school are looking for a motivated Graduate Teaching Assistant to join their dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in psychology and experience, or confidence, in dealing with challenging behaviour. This role offers a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of young vulnerable children. Key Responsibilities: Assist teachers in delivering tailored educational programs that address the individual needs of students. Provide support to students with SEMH needs, helping them to engage in learning and manage their behaviour effectively. Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment, promoting social skills and emotional well-being. Work closely with students on a one-to-one basis and in small groups, encouraging their participation and building their confidence. Collaborate with staff to implement behaviour management strategies and support plans. Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teachers and parents as necessary. Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance your skills in working with SEND students.Requirements: A degree in Psychology or a related field. Experience working with young people, particularly those exhibiting challenging behaviour or SEMH needs (this could be through voluntary work, placements, or personal experience). Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Patience, resilience, and a positive approach to behaviour management.
