Job Description

About Go Thrift:

Go Thrift is one of the UK’s leading online second-hand fashion retailers, transforming the way people buy and sell pre-loved clothing. We champion sustainability and circularity, offering customers affordable access to their favourite brands while making a positive environmental impact.

Founded in the North West by four passionate co-founders, Go Thrift has grown into a dynamic team of 40, with over 500,000 items sold to date. Our commitment to sustainable fashion has resonated with a growing customer base, proving that circularity is not just a trend but the future of retail.

Having recently secured a major investment round, backed by some of the UK’s most forward-thinking investors, we are now well-positioned for our next phase of growth. This investment will support our ambitious plans to expand and launch new product offerings, setting a new standard in the industry.

We are seeking an experienced Financial Director (FD) to join our leadership team. This individual will play a critical role in steering the financial strategy of the business as we scale, providing oversight on financial planning, investment utilisation, and overall fiscal health. You will have the opportunity to drive financial innovation, work with industry leaders, and contribute to shaping the future of sustainable fashion.

At Go Thrift, we’re not just growing a business - we’re leading a movement. If you're ready to bring your financial expertise to a mission-driven company, we’d love to hear from you.

Role Overview:

Go Thrift is at an exciting turning point. We’ve just completed a successful funding round, and the time has come to bring in a full-time Financial Director who can take full ownership of our finance function. Until now, we’ve relied on fractional support, which has served us well, but as we scale, we need someone who can provide more in-depth financial and commercial leadership.

As our Financial Director, you will take full ownership of the finance department, adopting a hands-on approach to building, optimising, and scaling our financial systems. You will lead the development of complex financial models, obsess over unit economics, and ensure our financial tracking is deeply embedded in data. Your focus will be on cash flow management, profitability analysis, and financial planning, ensuring that every decision is data-driven.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Take Ownership of the Financial Strategy: You’ll own the entire finance function, putting the necessary systems and processes in place to support our growth. You’ll work closely with other departments, particularly marketing, to ensure our financial strategies align with our broader business goals.
  • Lead Financial Modelling & Forecasting: We need a leader who can build, refine, and maintain financial models that provide visibility into our profitability and unit economics. You’ll continuously update our forecasts and help guide decision-making through accurate scenario planning.
  • Deliver Data-Driven Insights: This role requires someone who can dig deep into the data to track and report on key financial and operational KPIs. Your insights will be used to optimise everything from marketing spend to pricing strategies, ensuring the business remains both profitable and efficient.
  • Manage Cash Flow & Working Capital: Effective cash flow management is crucial to our growth, and you’ll ensure liquidity and stability by optimising working capital. You’ll ensure we’re balancing investments and operational needs, positioning us for sustainable growth.
  • Drive Systems & Automation: You’ll be responsible for streamlining and automating our financial systems to improve efficiency and data accuracy. This will support real-time reporting and ensure the finance function scales as we grow.

Key Objectives:

  • Develop Dynamic Financial Forecasting: Set up a flexible, data-driven forecasting model that will give the leadership team clear insights into the financial future of the business.
  • Improve Month-End Reporting: Implement a more rigorous month-end process to deliver clear and detailed financial reports, including a board reporting pack that meets the expectations of our new investors.
  • Establish Core KPIs: Define and track the key metrics that will drive business success, particularly in stock management, supplier performance, and profitability analysis.
  • Support the Launch New Products: Provide financial leadership for the launch of a new product, ensuring the right financial models are in place and that pricing strategies align with our growth goals.
  • Manage Cash Flow & Working Capital: Ensure strong cash flow management to support both day-to-day operations and future investments, keeping us in a strong financial position as we scale.

Skills & Experience:

  • Proven experience in financial leadership, with a strong track record of building financial processes from scratch. Experience in e-commerce or retail is a bonus, but not essential.
  • Expertise in financial modelling, forecasting, and cash flow management, with the ability to refine and maintain complex financial systems.
  • A data-driven approach, using financial insights to inform key business decisions and drive operational efficiency.
  • Self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced, high-growth environment, capable of taking full ownership of the finance function.
  • Experience with financial automation tools and implementing scalable financial systems.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly present financial insights to both stakeholders and investors.

Your Impact: In this role, you’ll be instrumental in laying the financial groundwork that supports our growth ambitions. You’ll develop the systems and processes that ensure we’re making informed, data-driven decisions at every step. Your work will directly shape the direction of Go Thrift as we scale, and the value you bring will drive both strategic initiatives and operational efficiency, positioning us for sustainable growth.

Position Overview:

Contract Type: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week (7.5 hours per day)

Annual Leave: 25 days annual holiday plus bank holidays

Equal Opportunities: Go Thrift is committed to fostering an inclusive and diverse workplace.
