What is the role of a Tug Driver?
Working as a Tug driver across the Humber Ports within a team to ensure the safe discharge of cargo, tug drivers are critical to the function of the port. Ports operate 24/7 so flexibility is essential to success within the role.
- Operating a Tugmaster to pull trailers
- Operating a Tug Tipper to transfer cargo
- Quayside duties as required which may include Slinger Banksman under the crane or Vehicle Banksman to ensure safe flow of traffic
- Completing daily machinery checks
- Working as part of a team to ensure safety within all operations
What experience do you need to be a Tug Driver?
To be a successful tug driver you must have a good understanding of Health and Safety as well as a Full UK Driving licence, experience driving large vehicles such as HGV, LGV or Buses is highly desirable.
- Full UK Driving Licence
- Previous experience operating a Tugmaster or Tug Tipper is highly desirable however training can be provided
- Previous experience as a RoRo tug driver is desirable but not essential as full training can be provided
- Experience operating large vehicles such as HGV, LGV, 7t+, Coaches or Buses is desirable but not essential
- Flexible approach to work
- Keen to learn new skills
- Previous experience in a similar role is highly desirable e.g. Tug Driver, Roro Driver, Lorry Driver, Port Operative. Crane Driver, Shovel Driver, Tug Tipper Driver, Class 2 Driver, Class 1 Driver
