Applications are invited from post graduate research students of the University. The post will provisionally start late December 2024 during the Christmas holidays in time for the start of the January term. Accommodation and Catering ArrangementsFree accommodation is available during term time. The accommodation available (Rutherford Blk 12) and is only suitable for a single person. Breakfast, lunch and evening meals are provided Monday to Friday during term time in Hall. DutiesSub-wardens assist the Warden in the day to day running of the hall.  This may involve pastoral, disciplinary and administrative duties as well as being involved in social aspects of hall life. The successful applicant will be part of a team which provides out-of-hours emergency cover in a hall of around 270 students and which helps to ensure the smooth running of the hall. Sub-wardens assist the Warden in the day to day running of the hall.  Personal AttributesCandidates must display a high level of personal organisational ability, good administrative ability, leadership qualities and be sociable and a good team player.  Sub-wardens are expected to demonstrate a commitment to the community spirit of the Hall and a willingness to engage with students and hall life in general. It is very important to find out what you are committing yourself to and to understand what is involved. All applicants are required to find out more about the hall community as it forms an integral part of the selection process. The successful applicant must be available to attend Sub-Warden training sessions in September and undertake first aid, mental health first aid and fire safety training when the courses are available after appointment. Application Procedures It is highly recommended that prospective candidates make contact with the Warden and in particular the current Sub-wardens to find out about Hall life and the likely duties, during the application process. Candidates must provide contact details for two written references (PhD Supervisors, Director of Studies / Line Manager, Head of Section). There will be an opportunity to look round the hall during the week beginning 28th October and completed application forms are to be submitted to the Warden by email by 6pm Friday 1St November 2024, with a view to holding interviews shortly thereafter.
