An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our team, as the Principal Pharmacist, Outpatients .

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated pharmacist to lead and develop the outpatient pharmacy service for the Trust.

Epsom and St Helier have retained in house out-patient dispensing and the pharmacy team manage the supply of medicines to the full range of specialties seen here in our clinics.

We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic and motivating leader who will transform the service provided to our patients. We need someone who is inspiring and who will re-invigorate and re-invent our processes delivering a professional, efficient and caring service.

Main duties of the job
You will need to have had hospital experience to understand how hospital prescribing, hospital only and formulary medicines work and perhaps you will also have experience of community pharmacy from which you can bring your commercial skills.

This is a senior role requiring someone with proven managerial and change management skills and experience. You will be working with a team of pharmacy assistants, technicians and pharmacists on two sites who are passionate about delivering a high class service.

The post includes participation in the late duty, seven day, bank holiday and senior back up on-call rotas.

Person Specification Qualifications and Training Essential

  • Masters in Pharmacy Degree - MPharm
  • 1 year pre-registration training Professional registration with General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent

Desirable

  • Membership of Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain
  • Member of the faculty of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (or working towards) at Faculty Advanced Stage II or Advanced level practice against the Core Advanced Curriculum
  • Independent Prescriber
  • Leadership/management qualification

Experience & Knowledge Essential

  • Extensive post registration hospital experience at least Band 7 level
  • Staff management Experience of clinical trials
  • Demonstrates evidence of excellent clinical knowledge and skills
  • Understanding of current national standards, guidelines and service developments linked to areas covered by Medicine.
  • Staff training and appraisal and service development

Desirable

  • Knowledge of CMM (formerly JAC) pharmacy computer system
  • Risk management and assessment
  • Complaint handling
  • Experience using KPIs to monitor a servicectice in the hospital setting

Skills/abilities Essential

  • Excellent organisational skills-self and others.
  • Computer literate including familiarity with electronic prescribing systems
  • Demonstrates initiative and ability to multi-task
  • Excellent time management
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritise work

Desirable

  • Up to date on changes to pharmacy and hospital standards
  • Ability to implement and manage change
  • Appreciation of audit methods
