Job Title: Senior Metrology Engineer
Reports to: Quality Manager
Contractual Hours: 39 hours per week, Monday to Friday (early finish Friday)

Role Overview: We are looking for an experienced Senior Metrology Engineer to lead a team responsible for maintaining and optimizing inspection processes and equipment. The ideal candidate will ensure all work is completed efficiently and meets internal and customer requirements, contributing to a fast-moving manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the metrology team, ensuring timely completion of tasks.
  • Optimise the use of all inspection equipment for tasks at hand.
  • Identify and address non-conformities in products or processes, and recommend improvement ideas.
  • Establish effective CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) programs that are aligned with customer or internal requirements.
  • Support dimensional problem resolution in collaboration with quality, engineering, and production teams.
  • Maintain and ensure serviceability of all inspection equipment and facilities.
  • Ensure optimum use of resources and facilities to meet departmental workload.
  • Respond quickly to quality concerns that could affect customer lines.
  • Provide training and set standards for personnel regarding metrology requirements.
  • Evaluate CAD models and drawings to support dimensional assessments.


Skills and Experience Required:

  • Completed a recognised apprenticeship in Engineering/Manufacturing, ideally with an ONC-level qualification.
  • Proven metrology experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, particularly in quality functions.
  • Strong working knowledge of CMM and scanning techniques, with the ability to supervise a team.
  • Hands-on experience with CMM programming using PC-Dmis, manual calibration equipment, and CAD software.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and fault-finding abilities in a demanding manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to understand and evaluate the latest metrology equipment and provide sound advice on related issues.
