Your Mission
Step into the driving seat of delivering finance at a small, growing accountancy and advisory firm, specialising in tech startups. You’ll be at the forefront, managing the financial health of multiple seed-stage companies, helping them on their journey to Series A. What You'll Be Doing:
Managing the financial health of our startup clientele:
- Lead Financial Operations: Oversee day-to-day financial activities for a portfolio of seed startups.
- Produce and Review: Create monthly management accounts and provide insights into business performance.
- Payroll & Pensions: Supervise monthly payroll and pension processes with precision.
- Bookkeeping & VAT: Work alongside our resident bookkeeper to tackle tricky bookkeeping challenges, oversee record keeping and review VAT Returns.
- Year-End Compliance: Produce year-end accounts and corporation tax returns for our startup clientele.
Supporting our startups as they grow from Seed to Series A:
- Startup Compliance: Handle EIS/SEIS compliance and EMI valuations.
- Financial Modelling: Assist seed startups in raising investments by building robust financial models and data rooms.
- Cash Flow Forecasting: Develop short-term cash flow forecasts to keep startups on track.
Helping us become one of the most innovative startup accountants on the market:
- Innovate and Improve: Help us identify and integrate the latest tech and AI to streamline workflows.
- Team Leadership: Support our in-house bookkeeper and help to foster a proactive and friendly team culture.
What You’ll Need:
- Hands-On Experience: 4-7 years' experience in UK accountancy, with hands-on experience in UK-based seed level startups or SMEs. You should be comfortable with FRS 102 1A standards. We value practical work experience over qualifying at a top ten accountancy practice - so if that’s you, you’re just the right fit for us.
- Optional: Qualified Accountant: ACA, ACCA, or AAT Licensed Accountant (Level 4 required)
- Tax Proficiency: You’re familiar with corporation tax, VAT, and PAYE, and know when to call in specialists for complex issues.
- Relationship Building: Building strong relationships comes naturally to you. You’re personable, approachable, and know how to communicate in a simple, clear and effective way internally and externally.
- Attention to Detail: You notice the little things that others might miss, and you’re happy checking through work for errors.
- Data Savvy: Strong Excel and Google Sheets skills, with a knack for spotting errors in financial models.
- Tech Enthusiast: Basic experience with low-code/no-code tools and a keen interest in AI.
- Brilliant English: Exceptional written and spoken English skills. You’ll need to be able to interpret and articulate complex ideas with clarity—especially when others can’t. Native or near-native speaker level-English needed.
