Summary of Position:


Reporting directly to the Managing Director the Machine Shop Production Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day planning, operation and problem-solving of the machine shop so that the team meets the required performance targets of the department.


It is important for the Machine Shop Production Manager to be able to quickly develop an in-depth understanding of the wider organisation to be able to effectively assist in all aspects of production, this will include identifying areas to improvement efficiency, developing training plans and assisting with succession planning and talent management.


The communication line between the Machine Shop Production Manager and All department heads needs to be strong and clear at all times to ensure organisational objectives are met and the overall business strategy is achievable.


The role will be based primarily in Birmingham but travel throughout the UK may be required.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Implementing manufacturing strategies and action plans, as directed by the Managing Director, to ensure that the machine shop supports the business strategic objectives.
  • Day to day planning in accordance with the order book and future projects
  • Conduct Performance & Development Appraisals and identify training needs, work with the production manager to train and develop the Machine Shop personnel, to create a multi skilled, flexibility and motivated team.
  • Building existing products, working with designers and customers to provide input to new developments and existing products.
  • Programming/Offline Programming using CADCAM software
  • CNC Machine setting and operating when required.
  • Communicating with customers and stakeholders on all levels.
  • Working in a small multi-disciplined team, responsible for the day to day running of the Machine Shop section.
  • Ensuring stock is well maintained and accurately booked to jobs.
  • Working in co-operation with other Manufacturing teams within the organisation to ensure the product is of the quality and standards expected.
  • Attend and contribute in monthly management meetings.
  • Holding team planning meetings and managing workload.
  • Ensuring that production documentation is logged and kept up-to-date.
  • Implementation of lean manufacturing activities.
  • Daily monitoring and achievement of manufacturing targets to include quality metrics, productivity metrics.
  • Ensuring compliance with manufacturing safety, process, procedures and quality assurance standards

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record managing/supervising in a CNC Machine Shop Environment. You will also have the following competencies;
