Civil Design Engineer - Birchwood
Our client are a North West based, regional-level and privately-owned house builder. They're known throughout the NW region for delivering quality family homes with some real character and traditional looking features.
Due to continued growth & expansion, their Technical team are looking to bolster their ranks with the acquisition of an in-house experienced Civil Design Engineer.
Role Overview:
As a key member of their technical team, you will play a pivotal role in driving the success of projects, working alongside Technical and Land teams.
Reporting directly to the Technical Manager, you will be responsible for the hands-on execution of civil design concepts, ensuring regulatory compliance, and optimising efficiency through value engineering principles.
This role offers a unique opportunity to make a tangible impact within the organisation and contribute to the enhancement of processes and outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Preparation of civil design concepts for site feasibilities, including ground modelling as required.
- Preparation of technically complete civil design packages on new developments.
- Knowledge and working experience of design software for highways, drainage and earthworks.
- Obtaining of full S278/S38/S104/S185 technical approvals with highway, water authorities and LLFA's etc.
- Assisting the Architectural Manager with design information for Planning and Building Regulations submission and discharge.
- Close working relationship with our Development Engineer on new and live schemes.
- Structural Engineer liaison where required on schemes that involve structural elements, i.e. culverts, bridges, highway retaining structures.
- Dealing with Commercial, Sales & Site queries in relation to the design elements.
- Attendance to site where required to ensure design compliance.
- Dealing with External Consultants where required.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
- Proven experience in civil design, preferably within the land and property development sector.
- Proficiency in design software for highways, drainage, and earthworks (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D).
- Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and approval processes (e.g., S278/S38/S104/S185).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and external stakeholders.
- Proactive approach to problem-solving and a keen eye for detail.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
