The Role
Youll work alongside a dynamic team, delivering tailored education to learners with diverse needs. Your focus will be on supporting students' academic, social, and emotional development. This is a hands-on teaching role where you will:
- Teaching & Learning: Deliver engaging lessons based on individual pupil profiles, fostering confidence, self-esteem, and independence in a safe and supportive environment.
- Student Support: Implement interventions in communication, emotional regulation, and personal development, while tracking and reporting on progress.
- Collaboration: Work closely with teaching assistants, therapists, and the multidisciplinary team to ensure holistic support for each student.
- Safeguarding: Uphold safeguarding policies, ensuring the safety and welfare of all students.
- Leadership & Management: Lead and develop a team of education assistants, promoting a positive and collaborative environment.
Skills and Qualifications
Skills and Experience:
- Recently qualified or awaiting a new teaching post
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), recognized by the DfE.
- SEN experience: Knowledge of child development and experience working with pupils with special educational needs (SLD, PMLD).
- Familiar with Educational Health Care Plans (EHCPs) and their planning, monitoring, and evaluation.
- Ability to communicate effectively with non-verbal learners, parents, and professionals.
- Experience leading support staff and providing performance management for education assistants.
- Skilled at adjusting teaching methods and materials to meet the needs of diverse learners.
- Experience working with occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, and physiotherapists is desirable.
- Ability to handle the physical aspects of the role, including manual handling and using specialized equipment.
- Self-motivated, calm under pressure, adaptable, with a passion for working with children with SEND.
Other useful skills and experience:
- Relevant SEN qualification.
- Experience of working with pupils with SLD and PMLD.
- Experience working in a multidisciplinary environment.
- Experience of teaching non-verbal learners with physical disabilities, visual impairments, hearing impairments, and complex health needs.
- Knowledge and understanding of medical conditions for children with visual/hearing impairments, physical disabilities, and complex health needs.
- Understanding of how Occupational, Speech and Language Therapists, and Physiotherapists work with children and young people.
- Experience of teaching children/young people with special needs.
- Experience of working in partnership with parents and professionals
