General Secretary

The World Pharmacy Council was established in 1987 by community pharmacy organisations in seven countries and officially incorporated in 2017 to share information and discuss the role, opportunities and issues affecting community pharmacy. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a new Secretary General to join the World Pharmacy Council to lead a small team and represent pharmacy on behalf of its members, in particular to the WorldHealth Organisation (WHO) and OECD. The Council members are in Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Israel, New Zealand Portugal, Spain, the UK and the USA. Working with the team, contractors and the Board the Secretary General will manage the Council’s business functions including the development and implementation of the strategic plan, the commercial / financial operations and performance, research and member services, including events and meetings. The role of Secretary General will be fundamental in building and enhancing relationships with the OECD and WHO and will uphold the Mission and Vision of the organisation, whilst delivering on the strategic pillars and principles of the organisation. The ideal candidate will be Tertiary qualified and have a background in either Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical, the broader healthcare sector, or in interfacing with the OECD and WHO. They will have had a diverse range of experience across the primary healthcare, health systems, patient care and community interface. Their track record will be in facilitating, advocating for, and / or driving transformational change agendas with a focus on stakeholder engagement, advocacy, relationship management on the use of media, data and technology. They will understand the complexity of healthcare systems and the crucial and evolving role of community pharmacy has in those systems globally, as well as the key challenges facing the industry in order to represent members effectively. This is a part-time contract role, based in Europe or the UK and will require flexibility around workload and travel.
