SLR is seeking a high calibre individual to contribute to the growth of the UK Transport Planning team, involving business development and delivery of project work.
Based in Manchester this exciting opportunity includes becoming part of the Northern Leadership Team, responsible for developing strategies to grow our Northern Region, which covers our Birmingham, Nottingham, Manchester, Leeds, and Edinburgh offices. You will be given autonomy to fulfil this role whilst benefiting from extensive support from the SLR senior team, with the opportunity to work anywhere in the UK based on client wishes.
With this also comes the opportunity to be involved in a comprehensive business development programme which includes client-specific marketing events, attendance at regional conferences, various B2B activities, presentations and panel discussions at national events such as UKREiiF and attendance at international events such as MIPIM.

The Role
This is a key senior position within the Manchester team. We are looking for an experienced and established consultant to generate business from an existing and new client base, lead on projects and provide support and development to junior members of the team.
• Provide expert transport planning advice to clients to fulfil their land use development objectives
• Manage and deliver complex development projects, ranging from feasibility studies, promotion of development, including through the local plan process, supporting planning applications and negotiation to successful resolution, dealing with appeals and public inquiry as necessary
• Develop and manage client relationships to secure and deliver project work
• Recruit and further develop our Manchester-based team
• Negotiate fee proposals and manage the financial aspect of projects
• Mentor and support the career development of colleagues within your team
• Maintain your continued professional development on technical, policy and legal matters related to planning and transport
• Seek to add value to all projects to deliver an exceptional service to our clients
About You
You will need to be a commercially minded, highly skilled and experienced transport planner, with business development skills and a track record of working with key clients and other built environment disciplines.
We are looking for:
• High level of understanding of the planning, policy and legal frameworks to secure client development objectives
• High degree of technical ability in sustainable development transport strategies, understanding transport modelling, and delivering commercially viable transport strategies for development
• Strong client contacts and a track record of winning project work
• Extensive experience of working within the development industry, across a range of land use types
• Expert knowledge on transport matters and innovations within the sector
• Communication, leadership and management skills
• Understanding of financial management at the project level and wider level
• A relevant degree and professional qualification
