Mechanical Engineer (Design and Analysis) for Space ApplicationsLMO is a company based in the UK and Luxembourg, developing Propulsion Systems, Rendezvous & Proximity Operations Payloads and Space Domain Awareness Payloads for Dual-Use applications.LMO is involved in the design, development, verification, build, test, and operation of its space-borne subsystems and collaborates with major research and industrial players in the fields of propulsion, GNC and Computer Vision technologies.For its Propulsion group LMO is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to help with the design and analysis of its propulsion systems & components.Job LocationReading, United KingdomFull Time EmploymentHybrid WorkPosition SummaryThe Mechanical Engineer will be supporting the development and qualification of LMO’s propulsion products (subsystems and components) throughout their lifecycle with strong focus on the design, structural and thermal analysis. They will work with the project Systems Engineer to ensure alignment of the design to the end user requirement specifications, and will support all phases of the product including assembly, test, integration and reporting. As Analysist they will have a predominant role in designing the test setup and specifications for vibration testing, shock testing and TVAC testing with external facilities, as well as processing the measurements and feeding the outcomes back into the design of the subsystems.The mechanical engineer will be working together with other disciplines like propulsion engineers, electrical engineers, etc. and coordinating with project managers to ensure the successful technical outcome.We are looking for a versatile engineer who understand how to approach engineering problems, and who can deliver solutions using first principles and excellent organization skills combined with strong technical competencies. We offer a stimulating multi-disciplinary environments and fun projects to grow your career while contributing to the future of space industry.   Aspects that we are looking for:A minimum of 3 years of experience in the space industry working in relevant projects,Experience in mechanical design of components and subsystems for space applications, including manufacturing and assembly, material selection, etc.,Experience in structural analysis (pressure, vibration, quasi-static, shock) and modelling of components and subsystems,Producing manufacturing drawings for suppliers and manufacturing/assembly instructions for in-house assembly.Understanding of the manufacturing processes,Understanding of thermal fundamental principles and ability in modelling thermal systems,Proficient with CAD, preferably in CREO or SolidWorksProficient with analysis software like ANSYS, Nastran or ESATAN (but not limited to these).Experience specifying mechanical tests (Vibration, shock) and thermal tests (TVAC, Thermal ambient, thermal balance, etc.) for characterisation, acceptance and/or qualification of components for space missions.Experience implementing tests, including familiarity with test setup, data acquisition, post-processing and interpretation of data and reporting results, both for mechanical and thermal tests.Ability to work autonomously and as part of a larger multi-disciplinary engineering teamAbility to write and manage documentation (fluent in MS Word, MS Excel, etc.)English proficiency Aspects that are a plus (but not essential):Knowledge of Propulsion Systems for Space ApplicationsKnowledge of Pressure Vessel DesignKnowledge on MechanismsGood understanding of thermodynamics and thermal transfer mechanisms applied to liquids, gases, and their containing structures.Experience with designing thermal control systems applied to space subsystems, trade-offs and architecture definition, including thermal instrumentation,Familiarity with ECSS standards and practicesFamiliarity with QA processes including inspection, discrepancy reports, traceability, calibration of equipment, etc.Experience in managing work packages, budgets and reporting progress to project management within the company ConditionsFor this role the base salary expectation, depending on experience, is between 45,000 – 60,000 GBP per annum for a 40-hour work week. This includes 25 days annual leave.
