Role SummaryDesign ManagerEstates and Capital ProjectsFull-timePermanent£53,132 per annumApplication deadline: 25 October 2024 at 12:00 (Midday)About the role:The British Museum is seeking to appoint a Design Manager (within the Estates and Capital Project department) to join the client team across a diverse array of projects and built environment-related operations. Design Managers are integral to project teams, facilitating informed decision-making and enhancing communication between internal stakeholders and external design teams.The scope of the role spans a wide spectrum of projects, from strategic and master planning for the Museum's future to ensuring its ongoing maintenance, safety, and accessibility – including that of the collection – in the present day. Ongoing projects include the construction of an on-site Energy Centre to facilitate the Museum's decarbonisation, improvements to the visitor welcome, early stages of the Western Range redevelopment, as well as significant renovations and enhancements to public-facing areas, MEP and fire systems across the site.As a globally recognised institution, the British Museum is committed to fostering diversity and inclusivity, and therefore strongly encourages applications from individuals belonging to underrepresented groups within the built environment.About you: Educated to degree level in an Architectural / built-environment / construction-related disciple, or equivalent experience Post-graduate degree in Architecture / Interior Architecture / Heritage Management Professional body accreditation, or formal qualification in a related field, eg. ARB Project Management / Programme Management / Risk Management/Design Management qualifications Significant experience planning, developing and delivering projects within a large national museum or art gallery, or similar context Experience of working with design teams on new-build and refurbishment projects in the cultural sector Knowledge and expertise on procurement of consultants and contractors within the public sector, and knowledge of relevant suppliers in the marketplace. Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to write strategies, briefs, and scopes, providing clarity via written appraisals to Project Team members.About the British Museum:Founded in 1753, the British Museum’s remarkable collection spans over two million years of human history and culture.
