Cheesecake Energy Ltd (CEL) is a fast-growing technology company whose mission is to accelerate the clean energy transition. We are doing this by developing a new technology for industrial-scale energy storage that will be needed in huge numbers as the world moves to intermittent renewables. CEL’s system is made of readily available and fully recyclable materials to store electricity in the form of heat and compressed air – for example we repurpose truck engines to serve as electrically driven piston air compressors. This combined with our system’s long life and use of circular supply chains delivers a low environmental impact and allows us to deliver ‘the world's greenest battery’.

About the role
Are you a perceptive thinker with a passion for innovation? We are seeking a dedicated Commercial Analyst to join our team. This critical role involves conducting thorough techno-economic analysis and qualifying potential customers for our compressed air energy storage systems. As a Commercial Analyst at CEL, you will play a key role in our sales and business development efforts by providing vital insights and strategic recommendations. For capable candidates there are ample opportunities to progress rapidly into senior commercial and customer-facing roles.
Role responsibilities
Techno-Economic Analysis: Perform detailed techno-economic analyses to evaluate the feasibility and financial potential of CAES projects. This includes assessing project economics, financial models, ROI calculations, and cost-benefit analyses.
Market Research: Investigate and analyse market trends, competitor strategies, regulatory frameworks, and industry benchmarks related to energy storage and CAES technologies.
Customer Qualification: Identify and qualify potential customers based on specific criteria, including budget allocation, energy consumption profiles, operational needs, and sustainability goals.
Proposal Development: Assist in creating tailored proposals and presentations for potential customers, highlighting the technical and economic benefits of our CAES solutions.
Collaboration: Work closely with sales, engineering, and project management teams to ensure alignment on project requirements and customer expectations.
Reporting and Insights: Prepare comprehensive reports, dashboards, and presentations summarising analysis findings, market insights, and business development opportunities.
Continuous Improvement: Continuously refine and improve frameworks, tools, and methodologies to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of our commercial processes.
About you
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field. A Master’s degree is a plus.
Proven experience (2+ years) in conducting techno-economic analysis, financial modeling, or business analysis within the energy sector or related industries.
Knowledge of energy storage technologies and relevant markets is advantageous.
Strong analytical skills with proficiency in Excel and data analysis tools. Python or similar coding skills preferred.
Ability to interpret and present complex data clearly and concisely.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and present findings to stakeholders at all levels.
Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
