About this Position:

The Senior Mechanical Engineer role is a contract position within the Engineering department at the clients Northamptonshire office. The successful candidate will deliver engineering solutions across various projects, primarily focusing on mechanical engineering, with considerations for hydraulic and electrical systems. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, this role involves design creation, project management, and providing technical support throughout the manufacturing process.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Produce and take ownership of new designs using 3D CAD, including creating detailed drawings to BS8888 standards.
  • Design fabricated structural components for various applications, providing supporting calculations and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) reports.
  • Manage assigned projects, monitor progress, and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Present and communicate engineering outputs to internal and external stakeholders through design reviews and presentations.
  • Provide design support throughout the product lifecycle, including manufacture, assembly, and testing.
  • Manage product manufacturing documentation, including CAD files, technical drawings, and Bill of Materials (BOM).
  • Provide technical support across all areas of the business.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to deliver projects successfully.
  • Identify and communicate with suppliers, and visit as necessary to support project delivery.
  • Adhere to internal quality procedures and industry standards.
  • Flexibility to travel nationally and internationally if required.

Experience Required:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience with a degree qualification (BSc or BEng) in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Hands-on experience from concept design to FEA and in-service support.
  • Proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD, with Inventor preferred, though CATIA or SolidWorks are considered.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical engineering principles.
  • Experience in technical drawing production, 3D design, BOM creation, and FEA.
  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to justify engineering decisions and calculations.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with teams and subject matter experts across multiple projects.
  • A full driving license is required.
