Job Requirements / Description
Job Description

The Clermont Group (“Clermont”) provides bespoke wealth, tax and succession planning solutions for high net-worth clients via multi-jurisdictional corporate and trust structures.

Clermont is seeking an additional member for its in-house legal team to assist with the increasing legal workload across its offices. In this regard, Clermont is looking for a STEP-qualified lawyer (preferably, but not necessarily, qualified in a common law jurisdiction) based in the UK to provide legal support on the establishment and management of trusts and corporate structures and to assist with the implementation of international legal, tax and regulatory advice within those structures.

The role will involve working with managers, administrators, accountants and tax advisors across all of Clermont’s offices. It is necessary for the candidate to have a solid understanding of trusts, companies and other corporate vehicles, including relevant legal and compliance aspects, with at least 3 years’ experience in the industry and excellent written English.

In addition to advising internally on trust and company administration, the job will entail supporting the legal team in guiding the wider Clermont team on a broad range of legal issues, including aspects of employment law, property law, and tax and compliance matters. Advice and guidance will not be provided externally or to clients directly as Clermont is not a law firm. However, the diverse nature of Clermont’s clients, the structures under its administration, the assets held within those structures, and the legal, transactional and regulatory matters associated with them means the successful candidate will be exposed to a wide and varied range of legal issues beyond a single discipline. A strong ability to research, understand and tackle legal queries is therefore essential.

More specifically, the role will include the following:

-            drafting, reviewing, and negotiating trust, commercial and legal documents, including trustee and company minutes and resolutions;

-            assisting with the implementation of externally sourced tax and legal advice within Clermont-managed structures;

-            liaising with legal and tax advisors, accountants and other service providers;

-            offering practical options and solutions to achieve objectives and solve issues for new and existing structures;

-            updating internal resources and precedents to reflect legal and regulatory developments;

-            maintaining and improving Clermont’s internal processes and systems to cater for legislative changes;

-            managing specific projects to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory obligations, including the UK Trust Registration Service and the UK’s Register of Overseas Entities; and

-            (optionally) the opportunity to become involved in business development for Clermont

A minimum of 3 days per week in the office is required, with the possibility of working from home to be discussed upon application for the role.

To apply to become part of the Clermont’s Legal Team, please send you CV to Kelly Savopoulos at email - [email protected].
