Position: Senior Dry Docking Coordinator

Reporting to: Chief Director of Technical

Location: London


Overview of the role

As per the strategy set by the Chief Director of Technical the Senior Dry Docking Coordinator will have responsibility in collaboration with the General Fleet Managers (Technical) and the Technical Managers for the new-build, drydocking and maintenance activities for the Zodiac fleet. The Senior Dry Docking Coordinator will drive continual improvement and performance through an innovative, impactful and commercially aligned approach for these key activities.


Key responsibilities and primary deliverables

New Build Programme

  • Involvement in the successful execution and end to end responsibility for the new-build programme; involving all phases from the audit, assessment and selection of the shipyard, pre-contract negotiations which protect the owner's interests, contract, new-building specification and design, plan approval, construction, supervision, testing, sea trial through to delivery of the vessel.
  • With focus on innovation, safety and environmental management, cost optimisation, compliance with applicable regulations / standards, you will contribute to setting the future technical standards for new and existing vessels.

Drydock and Maintenance Programme

  • Detailed preparation and creation of the drydock specifications for all drydock activities and related issues, in collaboration with Technical Managers.
  • Monitor drydock timelines across the fleet and follow up with the General Fleet Managers, and other stakeholders to ensure preparation.
  • Optimal planning of dockings in conjunction with the General Fleet Managers and other stakeholders to guarantee dock availability.
  • Review drydock specifications and submit to agreed shipyards for quotation.
  • Carry out detailed comparison of shipyard quotations and provide recommendations on drydock options. (costs/availability)
  • Evaluate quality of dockings based on agreed and established measures. Advise and coordinate shipyard evaluations.
  • Analyse previous docking costs and invoices to identify cost optimisation opportunities.
  • Ensure drydock budget alignment across the fleet.

Cost Management

  • Strategic negotiations with shipyards with recommendations in cost optimisation across all workstreams.

Optimise Fleet Performance

  • Providing expert support and advice to fleet technical teams in identifying and correcting the root causes behind vessels showing reduction in performance vis-à-vis vessel reliability, cost performance, paint performance etc.

Programme Management

  • Manage, develop, and continuously improve an effective programme management framework, which will incorporate a balanced set of indicators by which success and progress of Zodiac Maritime's dry docking program can be measured. Ensure the relevant stakeholders have real time visibility on the progress of all activities within the pipeline, and how these are delivering against the agreed scope, costs and schedule.

Communication

  • Build trust and interact effectively with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Liaise closely with relevant stakeholders and keep the Chief Director of Technical and General Fleet Managers closely advised of any developments.
  • Effective and timely liaison with classification societies on all applicable workstreams (e.g. New Builds, specifications, certifications, and second-hand purchases etc.)

Technology

  • Assess, review and participate in implementation of new software's and technologies to drive continuous improvement in planning, preparing and execution of new build and dry docking process.


Skills Profile

Relevant experience and education

  • A minimum of 5 years' experience from ship management is a requirement for this role. Must have carried out at least 5 drydocking and new-builds as the Project Lead. Thorough knowledge on the different aspects of drydocking and new-builds in line with industry standards.
  • Previous experience in a shipyard or Dry dock would be an advantage.
  • Working knowledge and solid technical know-how within ship design across all vessel types in operation.
  • Detailed working knowledge and understanding of the various class, flag and other regulatory / statutory requirements.
  • It is advantageous if you hold a MSc degree in naval architecture and have already built-up knowledge and understanding of ship design and vessel operations.
  • Highly effective at building and sustaining relationships at multiple levels throughout a global organisation. Comfortable operating in a multicultural environment.
  • Capable of simplifying complex areas in a clear and succinct manner. Excellent all-round communication skills.
  • High level of analytical skills and strategic thinking ability to support decisions with sound reasoning and judgement.
  • Excellent negotiation skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office; Word, Excel and PowerPoint and open to learning other data software package skills.
  • You have a strong focus on delivering quality and meeting deadlines. A successful track record in dealing with a broad set of activities within a fast-paced environment, whilst managing ambiguity and pressure well is a requirement for this role.
