Chief Legal Officer / General Counsel or Similar Sought Citizen Zoo is seeking a Chief Legal Officer (CLO) or General Counsel (GC) to join the team on its Board of Directors. As a not-for-profit community interest company (CIC) focused on nature restoration and urban rewilding, primarily in London but also across Britain, we are looking for a legal professional to provide strategic guidance and oversight. The ideal candidate will have experience in corporate governance, legal compliance, risk management, and advising boards or senior leadership on complex legal matters. The role will also involve mentoring and supporting the CEO in understanding legal obligations, contracts, and other legal needs, following a £500,000 donation from Lund Trust in 2024. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a growing organisation at the forefront of nature conservation and rewilding in London. We welcome candidates with a passion for supporting nature recovery, who come from a non nature related background.Some of our most significant achievements include: Reintroducing beavers back to urban London for the first time in four centuriesRestoring Britain's largest grasshopper back to it's historic stronghold in East AngliaRegularly holding the UK's largest rewilding conference in CambridgeBringing locally extinct water voles back to West LondonLaunching the London White Stork ProjectThe ideal candidate will be a former or current partner at a recognised law firm, or has held or holds a senior legal position in a corporation or non-profit. They should have extensive experience in corporate governance, compliance, contract law, and risk management, and a demonstrated ability to provide strategic legal advice to boards of directors.The role will involve: Reviewing and advising on organisational policies Ensure legal compliance with all relevant regulations, particularly those related to projects involving large landholdings in partnership with councils and other landowners.Providing guidance on legal risk management and mitigation strategies.Offer legal guidance on potential disputes involving suppliers, partners, or other stakeholders.Reviewing contracts, agreements, and partnerships with possible.Mentoring the CEO on legal matters related to the organisation's growth, development and legal compliance.All board members serve on a voluntary basis; however, all board-related expenses are reimbursed.
