Senior Network Engineer

Who we are looking for

A Senior Network Engineer, working within IT Service Management, who will maintain and support our campus network infrastructure.

Due to our continued growth, your primary focus will be on supporting our IT Service Management (ITSM) function, whilst guiding and assisting with network related issues.

You will ensure operational efficiency, reliability, and compliance of our campus network infrastructure, whilst handling challenging tasks with efficiency and precision, ensuring the seamless operation of our cutting-edge technology infrastructure.

Our Network is extremely resilient, supporting the continued growth of the platform and consisting of a wide range of technologies from many market leading vendors.

Preferred skills and experience

• Proficiency in configuring and troubleshooting network devices at a low level, including switches, routers, firewalls and access points.
• Knowledge of network protocols such as Ethernet, TCP and IP, VLANs and routing protocols such as OSPF and BGP.
• Experience and understanding of the delivery of IT Service design, implementation, and management.
• Experience of working with third party suppliers of products and services, in conjunction with in-house teams to provide integrated and seamless delivery of technical solutions.
• Familiarity with network troubleshooting tools to diagnose and resolve network issues.
• Knowledge of network security principles, including access control lists, firewall policies and VPN configurations.
• Experience in working with low-level network protocols and technologies, such as DHCP, DNS, NAT and IP addressing.
• Ability to perform basic network device configurations, including firmware upgrades, port configurations and VLAN assignments.
• Strong problem solving skills and the ability to quickly identify and resolve network issues.
• Effective communication skills to collaborate with team members, provide technical support to end users and explain technical concepts in a clear and concise manner.

Main Responsibilities

• Working alongside architects and technical leads to serve as the main point of contact to the management and optimisation of campus network infrastructure.
• Providing expertise in Cisco SD-Access and Cisco wireless technologies, ensuring robust and scalable network solutions.
• Acting as a subject matter expert on SASE technologies, for example Palo Alto Prisma Access or Netskope NewEdge.
• Working alongside delivery teams to ensure a smooth transition of campus networks into operational support.
• Developing and enforcing network policies and procedures, aligning with industry best practices and compliance requirements relating to the enterprise network estate.
• Performing regular upgrades, troubleshooting issues and implementing enhancements to maintain optimal performance and seamless connectivity for both end users and individual campus networks.
• Collaborating with IT Services teams to understand Business needs and translate them into technical requirements, whilst providing training in relation to network troubleshooting.
• Diagnosing and resolving complex network issues, providing Level 3 support and guidance to IT Services teams.
• Working with the security teams to deploy and integrate SASE solutions, enhancing the overall security posture of the client networks.
