Pay range and compensation package: £60,000 - £80,000 DOE

About the Role

Reporting to the Cloud Architect, the Cloud Engineer will have a strong technical background and be an expert in implementing datacentre infrastructure, whether in a private cloud or public hyperscale cloud. Working with managed service suppliers across different locations throughout the UK, you will need to identify, understand, engineer, and implement datacentre solutions and services. The Cloud Engineer is responsible for the implementation of the company's cloud datacentre services. Working with managed service providers and directly within the Microsoft Azure space, the role will be to implement the cloud environment and landing zones following best practices as laid out by the Cloud Architect. You will have a proven technical datacentre and cloud background and be comfortable managing suppliers related to cloud datacentre services. You will be responsible for the delivery of all cloud and datacentre implementations. The successful role holder will be passionate about how cloud services underpin the company and will strive to challenge and deliver a class-leading service. You will be a strong advocate of documented processes and procedures. Key responsibilities within the role will be to work closely with the service management, application development, and portfolio transformation teams to ensure all new change activities are designed and integrated into live service as seamlessly as possible. As a member of the infrastructure team, you will be expected to drive forward the strategic agenda, ensuring the right technology and partners are in place to support the business. You will be accountable for adherence to the current IT SLAs, KPIs, department performance measures, and processes, as well as the delivery of the operational responsibilities of a cloud engineer.


Overall Role Objectives

  • You will need to support the progression of both on-prem and cloud-based agendas, ensuring alignment & inter-operability between clouds.
  • Support & progress cloud adoption strategy, through development and/or use of cloud assessment frameworks & scorecards, which ensure correct service placement, without diminishing company posture for security, disaster recovery, backup/recovery, retention, or compliance.
  • Implement technical cloud solutions according to design and their framework.
  • Manage key stakeholder meetings with regards to managing technology vendors and preferred suppliers.
  • Stay abreast of how cloud and datacentre infrastructure is currently impacting and driving competitors.
  • Help drive the direction of our cloud strategy throughout other divisions.
  • Influence and implement cloud elements of core business change projects.


Essential Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Skills

  • Understanding industry best practice around security, server infrastructure design, and cloud hosting.
  • Strong understanding of cloud technologies such as IaaS, PaaS, SDN, and other emerging technologies.
  • Ability to produce well-structured and written documentation and communicate to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to identify what is “the art of the possible”.

Experience/Knowledge

  • Significant server virtualization exposure with platforms such as VMware and Microsoft Hyper-V.
  • Networking (WAN / LAN / DNS) and wireless systems understanding.
  • Experience with security solutions such as DDoS, IPS, PCI compliance.
  • Strong understanding of Backup, DR, and Business Continuity.
  • Managed service and cloud-based service exposure (Azure, AWS, Microsoft 365).
  • SAN understanding, design, and deployment experience.
  • VMware VCP.
  • Azure implementation qualifications.
  • Azure PaaS stack and AKS.
  • Windows Server 2019.
  • Strong Azure implementation experience.
  • Knowledge of ITIL.
  • Proven track record in managing and integrating IT change programs.
  • KPI development experience in delivering realistic technical service metrics.
