We are seeking a

Seafarer Work and Welfare Program Manager

. The Seafarer Work and Welfare Program Manager is responsible for the strategic development, coordination, and implementation of Thai Union’s Vessel Code of Conduct (VCoC), focusing on advancing the company’s global commitments, particularly around crew welfare and sustainability in the seafood supply chain. This role ensures alignment with global Thai Union SeaChange 2030, managing vessel audits and improvement projects to drive positive changes in the supply chain. Additionally, the manager will build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, represent the company at industry meetings, and collaborate across teams to deliver transparent reporting and support procurement strategies. The position plays a crucial role in ensuring that Thai Union remains a leader in sustainable seafood by fostering innovation and continuous improvement in worker welfare.

The role will report to the Global Director Group Fish Procurement.

Your Responsibilities:

Project Management & Reporting: Oversee project management, including funding, budgeting, personnel, outcomes, and reporting. Contribute to report writing, review documentation, and develop case studies and example materials.

Stakeholder Engagement & Communication: Participate in meetings and events, delivering presentations and engaging with stakeholders such as retailers, NGOs, suppliers, consultants, and academics. Provide fisheries supply data to customers and stakeholders, supporting narrative development on social aspects of vessel operations.

Sustainability Program Development & Implementation: Support and manage the roll-out of the Thai Union Thai Union SeaChange 2030 and other seafarer welfare-related commitments, ensuring Thai Union Fish Suppliers, Fishery Improvement Projects (FIPs) are socially sustainable. Work closely with sustainability, supply chain, and procurement teams globally to meet Tuna Commitment 2025 and SeaChange 2030 targets.

Advocacy & Legal Framework Development: Create advocacy plans to address regulatory and legal deficiencies, develop global frameworks that meet EU and US and other countries due diligence requirements, and expand programs to other species and lower-risk fleets.

Collaboration & Training Initiatives: Revise the Vessel Code of Conduct (VCoC) and work with partners to pilot and trial supplier initiatives like training programs and sea connectivity. Support supplier database development, training, and audit programs for vessels in compliance with sustainability goals.

About You:

Ideally, a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Human Rights, International Relations, Management, or similar. Candidates with BSCI or SEDEX qualifications will have an added advantage. 5+ years' experience in implementing projects, working with diverse, multi-stakeholder groups, and knowledge of sustainability principles and practices. Experience in auditing social standards and developing corrective action plans to meet those standards. Experience working with vessel owners, crew, and stakeholders from diverse cultural backgrounds. Knowledge of report writing and global sustainability initiatives concerning work and welfare on board vessels. Familiarity with social standards, certifications, and national inspection programs important to seafood businesses. Proficiency in English; additional language skills relevant to the industry or regions are a plus. A proactive and practical approach, with integrity and a desire to work in a dynamic environment. Enjoys collaborating with cross-functional, multicultural teams. Willing to travel.
